“Lovely efficiency with hardwood floors and in-unit washer and dryer.

Quiet tree-lined street overlooking Rock Creek Park.

Within walking distance of Adams Morgan entertainment/retail district, National Zoo and 15 minutes from Woodley Park Metro.

All utilities included.”

What premium would you give to having an “in-unit washer and dryer”? Does $1210 sound reasonable for this studio?

You can find more info here and a virtual tour here.

This 2 bed/2.5 bath is going for $750,000 ($547 monthly condo fee) – sound realistic? What do you think of the condo itself?

Violet Boutique will be opening above the old Timehri space at 2439 18th St, NW in Adams Morgan.  Nice to see that space get fixed up. Anyone know when they open or if they have already opened?

Thanks to a reader for sending the photo above, he writes:

“Looks like albertos on 18th may have closed. Their hours were pretty funky lately.”

Another reader adds:

“I walked by Alberto’s on 18th Street last night, and the place was gutted. Either they’re doing a remodel, or it has closed. Given the hours of operation (rarely open when I walk by on my way home from work at around 7 PM), I’m guessing they’ve closed for good. Really too bad, as it’s the only decent slice I’ve found in AdMo.

I tried to look for confirmation on their website, but it no longer exists. I wonder if the P Street location is still open?”

Alberto’s was located at 2438 18th St NW and indeed their Web site is no longer active and their phone remains unanswered.

And the 2010 P Street NW location (in Dupont) phone goes unanswered as well. Anyone happen to know if that location is still open?

Regarding the 2nd note but not pizza in general, just Adams Morgan pizza options – will you miss Alberto’s?

“Dear PoP,

Our building has been experiencing a case of “disappearing packages” and I’m wondering if any others are too. I’m on the 1800 block of Calvert, NW.

I’ve talked to building management, flagged it for UPS etc… I just was curious if this is a neighborhood package thief, or just a mean resident in my building.”

Unfortunately package thieves plague DC’s neighborhoods in what seems like a cyclical manner. We’ve seen/heard of package thieves in parts of Columbia Heights, Shaw, H St, NE, Petworth and I’m sure in other neighborhoods as well. To counter the problem many have their packages dropped off at work, with neighbors or at post offices.

For obvious reasons this behavior usually picks up around Christmas but, recently, has anyone else noted an uptick in package thefts?

It’s been a crazy week for Adams Morgan. First we learn that Adams Morgan Bar and Grill closed and now this. I’m hearing that it appears Toledo Lounge located at 2435 18th St. NW will change ownership at the end of the month. According to their Web site:

The Toledo Lounge is an Adams Morgan institution. Mary and Stephanie Abbajay, sisters and refugees from the Washington political scene of the early 1990s, opened the Lounge in July 1994. It was a hit from day one and has been going strong ever since.

Now remember it appears I was wrong about a Panera moving into the Adams Mill Bar and Grill space (though we did learn that Panera would be coming to DC USA in Columbia Heights) so take the following with a grain of salt: I hear that the owner of nearby Ventnor Sports Cafe and a partner, possibly from the also nearby Black Squirrel have purchased the bar. Ed. Note: The new basement bar of Black Squirrel is looking really good and seems to be nearly completed.

Emails go un-returned to the two establishments. I was able to briefly reach the owner, Scott, of Ventnor Cafe by telephone but he would not confirm nor deny the news before ending the call and unfortunately did not call back. So not exactly sure what that means…

UPDATE 11:29am, Sale is confirmed:

“It’s true. We are selling the Lounge. In fact, today is the day we go to settlement — as I write this, in fact. Thanks to everyone for their kind comments and fantastic support over the years. My sister Mary and I opened the Toledo Lounge 17 years ago — in July of 1994. It’s been a fantastic run, but it’s time to turn the old girl over to some new blood. Jon (my partner and the Lounge’s GM for the past 8 years) and I are confident that the new owners — Tom, Scott and Amy — will keep the Lounge spirit alive, and we wish them well. Long live the Lounge!”

Again, this is only scuttlebutt and I haven’t heard any concrete plans so I’ll be sure to update when/if more info becomes available.
