Major progress at Pho 14 coming to Adams Morgan in the former Pizza Hut space at 1769 Columbia Rd, NW. Thanks to a reader for catching the new awning. The owner of Pho 14 tells me the space is 90% set up and they have a tentative opening date set for November 1st.

1817 Columbia Rd, NW

And now for some potentially super sweet scuttlebutt – the former home of Evolve, Marrakech Lounge, and briefly Mudbugz at 1817 Columbia Rd, NW is undergoing serious renovations. I’m hearing that the folks behind Toki Underground (1234 H St, NE) have taken over the space. It’ll be interesting to learn, if it is them, if they will be bringing Ramen or another vision. Will update as more info becomes available.

1838 Columbia Road, NW

Looks like the retail space in the great building at 1838 Columbia Rd, NW has a new tenant. Formerly home to Design Within Reach, a new permit has been posted saying it will be home to the Maga Design Group:

“We have pioneered the co-creation of visual information maps for technology and business leaders – integrating their strategies, frameworks, metaphors, and visuals – to build powerful communications tools that address today’s business information challenges.”

Back in March 2011 rent was going for $18,000 per month…

Intersection 18th, U and Florida Ave, NW

Last week a reader sent in video of cars and buses blowing through red lights at the new intersection of 18th, U and Florida Ave, NW. DDOT informs me that there has been an increase in MPD enforcement and the OP confirms that “they have indeed been ticketing people today and yesterday”.

1654 Columbia Rd, NW

Back in July we learned Shawarma King had closed and would be replaced by Doner Bistro at 1654 Columbia Road, NW. I got a sneak peek yesterday and the place looks very cool:

Check out the chandelier:

If all goes well they should open on Thursday. You can see their menus here.

In addition to Foosball they’ll also be showing German soccer matches (Bundesliga) on tv.

Can anyone guess what these are?

And remember:

This place is gonna be awesome!
