Chef Manolatos and his crew have just decided to vamp up our current offerings like an oyster po’ boy and a fresh pastry basket from pastry chef Lauren Bonfiglio. Come see the new additions for the first time this Sunday, October 14th.

Back in July we learned Shawarma King had closed and would be replaced by Doner Bistro at 1654 Columbia Road, NW. I got a sneak peek yesterday and the place looks very cool:

Check out the chandelier:

If all goes well they should open on Thursday. You can see their menus here.

In addition to Foosball they’ll also be showing German soccer matches (Bundesliga) on tv.

Can anyone guess what these are?

And remember:

This place is gonna be awesome!

Dear PoPville,

At about 2:30 a.m. this morning I heard what sounded like 5 gunshots on Euclid St. After they were fired, someone shouted hey and ran down the street. I heard some police sirens about 15-20 minutes later but have no seen anything in the news. Have you heard anything about this?

MPD says:

On Thursday, September 27, 2012, at approximately 3:330 AM, a patron from the 2400 block of 18th St was walking thru the area of 17th & Euclid St, NW, when he got into a verbal argument with a local citizen. A friend of the local citizen, who also joined the argument, then fired multiple times at the pedestrian as he walked away. Officers were in the area and made an apprehension. No one was injured as a result of the firing.

Lots of folks have been following the saga of the drone that crashed and went missing on Adams Morgan Day. The drone was later recovered at 16th and W St, NW. Owner Adam Eidenger sent out a link to its last flight and crash:

“This is the final flight my #3 T580 Quadcopter that went missing on Adams Morgan Day, September 9, 2012 over the skies of Washington, DC.”

You can watch the final flight here, but note it gets a bit political.

2418 18th Street, NW

On Saturday a reader asks:

“What’s up with Shawarma Spot? They were closed at lunch last Sat. and yesterday but no sign on their door. No one answers their phone. Is this temporary or permanent closure?”

I stopped by yesterday and the space was still closed and calls went to voicemail. Shawarma Spot opened at 2418 18th St, NW back in Jan. 2009. The Adams Morgan BID tells me that they are now only open for dinner service.

Back in 2009 it looked like shawarma had a bright future in Adams Morgan as another restaurant – Shawarma King opened around the same time at 1654 Columbia Road, NW. Shawarma King closed this summer and will be replaced by Doner Bistro.

Shawarma Spot originally reduced their hours due to the streetscape project but now that that project is completed, it is not known whether they will add more hours. More info as it becomes available.
