Dear PoPville,

Recently one of my friends went missing in Adams Morgan on New Years Day. We are desperate to spread the word to try and find him as soon as possible. We are desperate to find him and it would mean the world to our community, friends and family to find him and to bring him home. Here is a link with his picture and information provided by the Montgomery County Police:

“Michael Steven Poe, age 23, of the 22900 block of Peach Tree Road in Clarksburg, was last seen at approximately 12:30 a.m. on January 1 at Shenanigans Bar in the Adams Morgan area of DC. Poe was with friends at that time. The group then split up, and Poe never returned from DC. He was last heard from via cell phone at approximately 2:30 a.m. on January 1.

Poe is described as a white male, 5’11″ tall, and weighing approximately 175 pounds. He has red hair and hazel eyes.”

Sad Update from ABC7:

“D.C. Police confirmed that the man found dead inside of a ventilation unit is Michael Steven Poe, 23, who was reported missing after New Years Eve.”

2006 18th Street, NW

A reader sends word that Bobby’s Lew Saloon located at the bottom of Adams Morgan at 2006 18th Street, NW has closed. When I stopped by to confirm they were closed as well. While there was no closed sign on the door, their phone number has been disconnected and their twitter and facebook pages have gone dormant. Anyone know how long they’ve been closed?

Thanks to all who sent in photos of this crazy crash at the Adams Morgan McDonalds at 18th and Columbia Rd, NW. @jessica_travels tweeted at 2:45pm:

“@popville Just saw a car drive into the McDonalds in Adams Morgan: http://ow.ly/i/1dAef – I took the pic from the bus.”

Updates as they become available.

After

Dear PoPville,

Just this week… on the 2200 block of Champlain Street NW in Adams Morgan… Us five neighbors got together and did a color coordinated collective effort of painting our otherwise simple rowhouses. Beforehand 1/2 the rowhouses were bare and the other half painted boring colors. And they were overpowered by two big bookend condo buildings.

It took a few iterations of color choices and some of the nearby neighbors helped with choices. Heed our advice, color chips look different than entire painted houses. Buy a 6oz sample and try a block of color before you commit to the gallons. We also found a few blocks where we liked the series of colors and called the owners for their color names. Everyone was m

Ultimately we are all now very proud of what was otherwise a boring and simple block of rowhouses turning into a collective effort to get some real curb appeal

Each house took 3 gallons of Behr Premium Plus Ultra Exterior Satin and we shared 3 gallons of Exterior White Satin for the trim.

Awesome!

1769 Columbia Rd, NW

We’ve been teased a few times about an opening date for Pho 14’s Adams Morgan location at 1769 Columbia Rd, NW. But we have good news – yesterday the owner tells me that “we just passed our inspection for license of occupancy”. They will update their new menu and “most likely open early next week.”

The Van Ness location should open a week or so after that.

Knock wood, knock wood.

1776 Columbia Road, NW

Looks like the Lee Jewelry space at 1776 Columbia Road, NW is set to become a new liquor store called Le Liquor according to a recent liquor license application. Though, I admit it is possible that there may have been a typo and it will be called Lee Liquor. I’m still holding out hope for Le Liquor. If not I call dibs on the name…
