“The construction crew at the new condo building being built on Champlain Street in Adams Morgan hoisted a Christmas tree onto penthouse terrace last week. The building must have been recently wired, as they added lights to the tree yesterday. This is just down the block from the new Marriott hotel construction pit.”

From MPD:

“Today, at approximately 9:12 AM, a suspect entered the Wells Fargo Bank, in the 3300 block of 14th Street, NW and attempted to rob it. The teller refused to hand over any cash, and the suspect fled. Members of the Third District responded and a lookout was broadcast for the suspect. Numerous patrol units began to canvass the area for the suspect.

At approximately 9:25 AM, the MPD received a call for a bank robbery at the PNC Bank in the 1700 block of Columbia Road, NW. The suspect in that robbery matched the same description as in the previous attempted robbery on 14th Street. Members of the Third District responded and confirmed the robbery, and the scope of the canvass for the suspect was expanded.

During the canvass, a subject was sighted that matched the description of the bank robber in the area of Perry Place and Spring Road, NW. As a result of the subsequent investigation the suspect was arrested for both offenses.

Anyone who may have witnessed this offense, or who may be familiar with the suspect, may contact the MPD’s Command Information Center at 202-727-9099.”

Thanks to a tipster for sending word that the former Shawarma Spot has been leased to Yamas Mediterranean Grill. This will be Yamas’ 2nd restaurant in DC – they opened one at 16th and U on New Hampshire back in May 2014. The Shawarma Spot most recently closed back in August after a roller coaster of openings and closings. Stay tuned for an opening date for Yamas when it’s announced.
