Word on the street is that an AT&T store will be replacing the old Game Stop space that opened back in 2011 (remember how pissed some folk were) on Columbia Road – I didn’t even know they closed…

Thanks to a tipster for sending word that the former Shawarma Spot has been leased to Yamas Mediterranean Grill. This will be Yamas’ 2nd restaurant in DC – they opened one at 16th and U on New Hampshire back in May 2014. The Shawarma Spot most recently closed back in August after a roller coaster of openings and closings. Stay tuned for an opening date for Yamas when it’s announced.

“Dear PoPville,
I currently live in the apartment building above what used to be Pharmacy Bar, now High Dive.
About 30 minutes ago, a huge potted plant fell of the ledge of one my neighbors who live in the expensive Lofts at Adams Morgan. When the plant crashed I raced to the window to see what it was, as I looked across the alleyway I could see someone (I assume the loft owner) looking out of their window as well. Now, luckily no people were hurt or cars were damaged by this pot but that could have easily happened.
As of this e-mail, no one from the apartment has come outside to check on the pot or bothered to clean up the mess. I’ve attached pictures of the fallen pot and the ledge from which it fell. What bothers me is that just because someone pays a premium price for a fancy loft, they are not absolved from the responsibility of being a resident. What’s sad is, this is not the first time this has happened in the year and a half I’ve been living here.
Please share this and get the word out there. As I said, no one was harmed. This time. But these people need to be held accountable for their irresponsibility.”

Thanks to Emilie for sending the photo above. Derrick tweets us:
“Because of the bank robbery this morning in Adams Morgan @The42BusDC is blocked off Columbia rd. by Safeway.”
DC Alerts tweets:
“MPD reports that the 1700 b/o Columbia Rd. NW is closed due to police activity. Please use an alternate route.”
Update from MPD:
“On 11/12/15 at approximately 9:30 am, an unknown black male walked into the PNC Bank located at 1779 Columbia Road, Northwest and stole an undisclosed amount of US Currency. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) was immediately notified of the incident, and a canvass of the area commenced for the suspect.
The suspect was located and placed under arrest. The quick response time/efforts of the officer’s assigned to the Third District lead to the arrest of the suspect which is indicative of their dedication and commitment to duty.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact the Metropolitan Police Department on 202-727-9099.”
