Quara Ethiopian Restaurant & Bar Opens in Adams Morgan

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Quara Ethiopian has opened in the old Felix/NYNY Diva space. Quara’s website says:

“Quara Ethiopian Restaurant is named for the ancient civilization where the modern-day country of Ethiopia is situated – and for the city of Quara, Ethiopia. True to our roots, we prepares traditional recipes from our homeland. Your food is served by first- and-second generation Ethiopians in Washington. Our culture is represented throughout by posters, paintings and music from Africa.

And our menu features many traditional Ethiopian favorites, including Kitfo, a raw beef dish that one that many Westerners are reluctant to try, but then find quite enjoyable!”

I was wondering if you had any info on the huge construction happening at Marie Reed. They’ve been working on it for months and just recently tore out the whole pool. I haven’t heard anything and was wondering what the plans were for it.”

The old auto body garage [J and N Auto Body] on Kalorama next to Champlain closed last week. Over the weekend, the sidewalk was littered with furniture and old files from the garage (this disappeared within days). In the last few days, this fencing had appeared on the lot.

“38th ANNUAL ADAMS MORGAN DAY– the longest continuously running neighborhood festival in the nation’s capital — once again invites residents, neighbors and friends to experience our renowned eclectic culture, businesses and lively artistic beat this Sunday, September 11, from noon to 6 p.m., centered at 18th Street NW and Columbia Road NW, and at participating Adams Morgan businesses. Bands play all day at SunTrust Plaza; artists will vend on the corner plazas and in front of businesses; and games take place in Unity Park. A pre-arranged basketball tournament will be held simultaneously at Kalorama Park. 18th Street will remain open and visitors will enjoy specials at the many international and local sourced participating restaurants of Adams Morgan. “Villa Tuscana – fine Italian cuisine” is coming “soon” to (at least half) of the old Chief Ike’s space. at least according to the banner that’s up today.”

Back in December we reported a liquor license had been posted for Villa Tuscana:

“New Italian restaurant. Total Occupancy Load: 123. Inside seating for 99 patrons. Sidewalk Café seating 24 patrons. Entertainment Endorsement.”

Sounds like they’re getting – updates when we have an exact opening date.

We judged them back in 2009 to less than stellar reviews but with the new hotel and restaurant coming nearby this could be a pretty prime spot – updates when we learn more.
