“For all the beer + Game of Thrones fans out there, Jack Rose Dining Saloon is hosting a very special launch party this Thursday, October 13 from 5 to 10 p.m. that combines the best of both worlds.

Every year, Brewery Ommegang out of Cooperstown, New York collaborates with HBO’s Game of Thrones on a special beer inspired by the critically-acclaimed show. The 7th release in the anticipated series is “Valar Dohaeris” – a Tripel Ale named after the premiere episode of the 3rd season, meaning “all men must serve” – and Jack Rose is thrilled to host the beer’s exclusive launch in DC this week. This beer is only released once a year and Jack Rose is the official bar to try it in DC. (more…)

popeyes

Thanks to Josh for sending. Back in late August we learned that Pollo Granjero had closed on Columbia Road. Fast Food, not fast casual, proper fast food is controversial to some but I know many many people will be happy about this. To them I say – I feel ya!! To the others I say – Johnny’s Half Shell is opening soon!! Now we can all be happy and I didn’t even mention the spots from Erik Bruner-Yang and Baltimore’s Woodberry Kitchen’s Spike Gjerde…

fire

A reader reports (thanks to all who sent emails):

“Heard lots of sirens around 6:30am and just walked down Columbia Rd and saw this. Counted at least 5 fire trucks and 2 ambulances plus some smaller emergency vehicles. It’s the building [El Rincon Espanol, 1826 Columbia Rd, NW] across from mintwood/perry’s and next to sun trust. Hard to tell what’s going on, I didn’t see or smell any smoke and the scene seemed pretty calm and under control.”
