“Dear PoPville,

I was going to book some classes at Bits of Thread, a sewing shop in AdMo that offers great how-to classes, as Christmas gifts but it looks like they’re going under. I’m so bummed! Wishing the best for the owner and all the staff.

“In a creative business like this where overhead is high and margins are low, going through such a slowdown pushed things underwater very quickly. I tried as much as I could to keep things afloat for the sake of our students and the creative community in DC, but unfortunately these efforts were not enough and it is time to let go. Our last day of classes will be December 17th, 2016.”

But nearby… “Bristle Hairdressing, opened in August 2016”

I’ve been going to Melissa, the owner of Bristle, to get my hair cut for a couple of years. She is fantastic and her new shop is beautiful and the staff is very professional and welcoming.

Aw man. I sew, and I never even knew this place existed.

Ditto! My first thought was, “There’s a sewing shop in Adams Morgan?!” Bummer!

Is that Melissa who used to be at Trim…or ANOTHER hair cutting Melissa?
Sad to hear that about Bits of Thread…

It is the same Melissa, and she is the best hair stylist I have ever known. She opened her own shop a few months ago.

It is the Melissa from Trim! I went to her at Trim and just went to Bristle for the first time a few weeks back. The space is really unique and beautiful, and the cut was amazing as usual! Wishing them lots of good luck.

Wow, had absolutely no clue that Bits of Thread existed and I pass that address several times a week. Sorry for its owner and patrons.

Thanks for posting this! I’ve been looking for a new place to get my hair cut. Made an appointment with Melissa!

I took lessons at Bits of Thread for a year and it is such a fabulous place with wonderful teachers. They really helped me take my sewing skills to the next level. I’m really sad to hear they’re closing 🙁

Also had no idea that place existed. These small businesses have got to do a better job advertising.

This spot is super cute….Jordan Pringle is there too! Have been following her for years -from One80 to the Studeo. This is by far my fave spot she’s been!

Just to clarify: bristle did not take over the bits of thread space above Mixtec- Bristle is located over Capitol Hemp

    • Yes – I’ve included their address in the photo of bristle – 1770 Columbia Rd NW. But that is a bit confusing – apologies!

Allison was a great teacher. I’m sorry to see them go, but she ran a successful small business for many years! She and the staff should be proud.
