“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I live in Adams Morgan and are very excited for the Line Hotel to be completed. Do you know if there are plans to put a bar and/or restaurant on the roof?”

Back in March I shared the scuttlebutt, since confirmed, that Toki Underground founder and Maketto’s Erik Bruner-Yang and Woodberry Kitchen’s Spike Gjerde would be opening up restaurants at The Line. Anyone happen to know if there are roof top plans?

I am almost positive a rooftop bar is going in. I forget where I read it but it’s pretty likely a rooftop bar is going in on the back of hotel.

Nope, it’s an event space for only private events.

Their settlement agreement with the neighborhood is pretty strict. IIRC, it stated that no rooftop outdoor space will allow dancing or alcohol consumption if not associated with an “organized event,” such as a family celebration (wedding), corporate event, or fundraiser.
See first document at the ANC 1C website: http://www.anc1c.org/index.php/library/category/166-2016-matters#
Perhaps there will be an indoor rooftop bar? No clue.

https://thelinehotel.s3.amazonaws.com/dc/assets/SG_TheLineDC_SalesKit.pdf they quote the sizes and capacity of rooftop terraces here, so there will definitely be some space!

I’m pretty sure I read a while back that they will be having a rooftop bar with a capacity of somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 people, but I can’t find where I saw that. I did just find the hotel’s website, which includes a guide to event spaces. There are two listed for the roof http://thelinehoteldc.com

    • awesome – thank you!!

    • OP Anon

It’s 225 people. See the settlement agreement I linked above.
It can’t be a permanently installed bar, only a temporary bar for special events.

  • With the pitch of that roof though, it’s not gonna be much fun trying to balance yourself while having a drink.

we should be more concerned with the $45 mil DC tax abatement which stipulated and agreement for local hiring upon which Sydell Group has reneged

    Email response from the hotel:

Thank you for your email and interest in The LINE DC.
Currently, our rooftop is dedicated to low key private social events, no stand alone bar is planned.
We will have great food & beverage venues in the Hotel, which we hope that you will visit.
    Kind regards,

ANC1C really needs a shakeup. I love my neighborhood, but it is sad to see so much business go east. Adams Morgan has the infrastructure in place to support a booming community, but I see more “[commercial] for rent” signs everyday. When you actively prohibit businesses from providing amenities that draw patrons (i.e., a rooftop bar), they will go elsewhere.

  • JayDC

Yup. The NIMBY’s ensured there would be no rooftop bar or public space. In fact, if you rent it out for a private event any type of music, etc has to end by midnight as to not disturb the neighbors of which I am one. I live around the corner and was excited that this hotel might include a great rooftop bar. The views would be incredible. But nooooooo. Not in my neighborhood. It is so disappointing.
