“Safe streets advocates are gathering to celebrate the life of Allison “Allie” Hart, the 5-year-old girl who was tragically struck and killed while riding her bike in a crosswalk on September 13. A “chalk-in” will take place this Sunday, December 12 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the intersection of 14th St. NE and Irving Street, NE. Participants will fill the intersection with color, joy, and crystal clear messages about the dire need for safer streets for ALL here in DC. Washington National Cathedral to Host Funeral Service of Senator Bob Dole on Friday

“The funeral of former Sen. Bob Dole will be held at Washington National Cathedral on Friday, December 10 at 11 a.m. ET. Sen. Dole served for decades in Congress, both as a Senator and House member representing his home state of Kansas, after being severely wounded in combat in World War II. He was the Republican party’s Vice Presidential nominee in the 1976 election and Presidential nominee in the 1996 election. During his tenure, he also served for three years as Senate Majority Leader. Sen. Dole died on December 5, 2021; he was 98. The service will be attended by President Biden and other dignitaries. “Mayor Muriel Bowser and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) announced that the construction of the District’s permanent Black Lives Matter Plaza monument at 16th Street between K Street and H Street NW is officially complete.

“When we created Black Lives Matter Plaza in June 2020, we sent a strong message that Black Lives Matter, and that power has always been and always will be with well-meaning people. Today, we have transformed the mural into a monument,” said Mayor Bowser. “One of my proudest memories of Black Lives Matter Plaza is when, in his final days, Congressman John Lewis came to see it for himself. He recognized Black Lives Matter Plaza as good trouble, and we know it will remain a gathering place for reflection, planning and action, as we work toward a more perfect union.” (more…)
