Very cool news from Short Articles about Long Meetings, they reported the Organic Indian grocery store will:

“be located in the basement of 1603 17th Street NW, the former location of Club Chaos nightclub, which closed in 2008.”

Pansari’s website says:

“Pansaari is coming soon! We will be an Indian food and spice market, cafe, and cooking school, serving the Dupont area with fresh, authentic Indian ingredients.”

It’s a big day for grocery store news. Back in February of this year we first heard the scuttlebutt about a Whole Foods coming to Street. From a press release:

“Whole Foods Market, in partnership with Insight Property Group and The Lionstone Group, has signed a lease for a new store location at 600 H Street NE in Washington, D.C. This is the second lease signed in two weeks, most recently 800 New Jersey Avenue SE, furthering Whole Foods Market’s commitment to the District.

The H Street store will be approximately 38,000 square feet with a target opening date of late 2016. There are currently four stores in Washington, D.C. and one in development in the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

Rendering and more info after the jump. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if you know what the status of the Trader Joe’s that is supposed to come to the Louis at 14 complex? Previous reporting said the end of the year but I walk by that place often and it doesn’t look close to complete. With winter approaching I wonder if it will be pushed back to next year.”

Great news from the folks at Louis at 14th – they tell me that Trader Joe’s has begun their build out of the space. If all goes well they will most likely open up in February. Trader Joe’s will be located in the space right next to Taylor Gourmet (in photo above) and will incorporate the old El Paraiso restaurant facade into their store. I’m also told they will use some of the old bricks for an exposed brick wall in the northern part of the store. February can’t come soon enough!

“Dear PoPville,

I remember you covered the crazy lines at Giant in Columbia Heights at one point and they promised to keep all lines open at the busy times. But I’m here now, and it’s packed, not all lines are open, and most don’t have baggers.”

Were you there between 4-8pm?

Update thanks to a commenter for sharing a photo of the line Sunday at 6pm:

Yesterday we learned Whole Foods was coming to Navy Yard. Following is the official press release:

“Whole Foods Market, in partnership with the WC Smith real estate firm, has signed a lease for a new store location in Southeast Washington, D.C. The 36,000 square foot store will be located near Navy Yard and Nationals Park at 800 New Jersey Avenue SE. Whole Foods Market will anchor the retail portion of its $443 million development in the District’s Capitol Riverfront neighborhood.

The target opening date is early 2017. There are currently four Whole Foods Markets in Washington D.C.

“Washingtonians asked and we listened,” said Scott Allshouse, Whole Foods Market Mid-Atlantic regional president. “People who live and work in Southeast have been requesting a Whole Foods Market for some time. We are thrilled about finding the right fit given the combination of factors that go into deciding on a new location.” (more…)
