“Dear PoPville,

The Hechinger Mall Safeway has installed an elaborate system meant to stop some of the medium to large theft that has been troublesome for many retail stores in the District. It must be something that Safeway is rolling out to deal with loss prevention. It features an electronic swing gate at the entrance and heavy metal gates around the checkout areas. To get out from the self-checkout, you need to scan your receipt before the exit gate will open. I have seen this type of system at the Navy Yard Safeway. (more…)

5335 Wisconsin Ave

Great news from ANC Rep John Bender:

“Hear ye, @TenleyANC has received a liquor license application for Trader Joe’s at 5335 Wisconsin Ave in Chevy Chase Pavilion.

TJ’s arrival comes in part from years of ANC work without which, eg, most of the pavilion might have been dentists’ office.”

And if part one’s scuttlebutt was confirmed, well, for those who missed part two

STAY TUNED.

Holy smokes. When it rains it pours and today it is pouring pure joy. I don’t have timing on this one but I’m also hearing that that prayers of Brookland have finally been answered and a Trader Joe’s is coming. I don’t know where. Maybe here? I don’t know when but I do know that my Trader Joe’s scuttlebutt accuracy is pretty damned good…

STAY TUNED.

If you missed Part One earlier, you can see it here.

5300 Wisconsin Ave, NW

Alright y’all, if you were excited about the Booeymonger reopening, you’re gonna want to buckle up and secure your helmets because I hear from a very good source that a Trader Joe’s is coming to part of the old Mazza Gallerie space early next year assuming construction is completed on time.

STAY TUNED and remember this is only part one of our Trader Joe’s scuttlebutt…

“Dear PoPville,

I noticed that the Glover Park Whole Foods is not longer a “just walk out” store. You buy your groceries the old fashion way by ringing up your purchase at the cashier or self-checkout counters. The place is still creepy—all the cameras are still in place in the ceiling. So, last week was the first time I had been in the GP WF store in weeks. At that time, there were turnstiles at the front entrance where you scanned the QR code on your phone to enter. I see now that there is a just-walk-out lane open, but I don’t see how you scan in when you enter.” (more…)
