“The DC Council’s Committee on Transportation and the Environment, chaired by Councilmember Charles Allen (Ward 6), unanimously advanced out of committee Councilmember Allen’s legislation that sets a goal to grow the availability of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles (EVs), which are expected to continue to increase exponentially.
According to the federal Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, the District of Columbia currently has roughly 1,141 EV ports, or only 346 station locations, with just an additional four ports planned as of this release. Much of this existing EV charging infrastructure is largely limited to Downtown. (more…)

“During the hottest April on record, the National Park Service (NPS) approved a plan to cut down over 1,200 trees from Rock Creek Park, including hundreds of heritage and canopy trees from 33 different native species, amounting to one third of the trees on the golf course. The chainsaws will start whirring this fall, followed by heavy machinery that will regrade up to 32 acres of land and build a new 50-bay driving range that will be lit until 10pm, further disrupting ecosystems and wildlife. I’m all for raising the bag fee across the board (and pro-bottle bill to reduce plastics and up recycling), but Maman is charging a quarter for bags and last I checked it was still just a nickel. Maybe DOEE can pay them a visit or happily collect the full quarter as advertised. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
It’s that dreaded time of year again where the temperatures are rising but the heat is still mandated to be available in buildings per DC code until May 15th. This results in indoor temperatures nearing or exceeding 80 degrees with no air conditioning available (in buildings where tenants do not control the thermostat in this way).
Last year I started a petition to encourage the Council to revisit these regulations in light of climate change causing higher temperatures earlier in the year. (more…)
