Good friends of mine put out a bunch of groceries for those in need— furloughed gov t workers, people impacted by the SNAP crisis, etc. in 16th Street Heights. A good model for all of us to help our neighbors out!”

“Dear PoPville,
What to do with electronics recycling since Benning Rd is closed; I don’t feel like paying Best Buy to recycle.”

“Dear PoPville,
I think this is the same duct cleaning scam I’ve seen posted on popville. Someone sent it to the whole mail group for police notification for SW DC: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Reporting live from Trinidad, I’m really bummed to share that even the new orange, clearly marked “food compost” bins from DC’s composting program get stolen. Our bin lasted in our alley for exactly one night. (more…)

Ed. Note: When I asked about the two similar issues at Albermarle and 38th, DDOT assured me they weren’t permanent. I have heard no updates about how much longer those will be there or why they have been there so long. I continue to NOT hold my breath…
“Dear PoPville,
There has been a steel plate on 2nd St NW between Missouri Ave and Jefferson Street for about two years — I’m certain of the timing because it appeared shortly after we moved into our home. I’ve tried to get it taken care of via 311 requests, our ANC rep, and councilmember to no avail. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
One of my friends is going to be on Jeopardy tomorrow and we wanted to have a watch party in DC at a bar! Do you know if there are any bars that show jeopardy? It feels very DC to already exist hahaha. I think apparently Midlands said they would host! Apparently they’ve hosted quite a few over the years.”
Which other bars regularly show Jeopardy? Which ones would be most fun to watch your friend, hopefully, crush it?!?

“Dear PoPville,
1912 rowhome and have had issues with main sewer line clogging, backing up, and a little flooding over the past 3 years. Root cleaner twice a year has worked until now, and I spent $1.5K on hydro jetting, which cleared the pipes for a few weeks. I know I have a front yard tree that may have roots getting in, but the hydro jetting said they didn’t see damage nor was the clog far enough where the tree is, so I’m really at a loss of what the issue is.
Are my options replacing the entire sewer line or would pipe relining be an option?
Do you have any recommendations for plumbers and amount spent? Many thanks!”
Ed. Note: If it’s on city property you need to contact DC Water!!

Ed. Note: PoPville turns 19 years old this coming Wednesday and I am always stunned when I can still utter “well this is a first”, well, this is a first…
“Dear PoPville,
I don’t know what other recourse I have, so I’m hoping to warn fellow Dupont dog neighbors. I was walking my (very much leashed and well behaved) dog on Corcoran St, in between New Hampshire and 17th, when a white cat with grey/brown spots ran from its yard and starting attacking my dog. My dog didn’t fight back, she just started crying and trying to escape. I had to use my foot to remove the cat (I did not at all hurt the cat) but it continued to chase us about 30 feet down the block. The cat jumped on my dog at least 5 times. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
Has anyone heard why there has been standing water on Piney Branch Road between Beach Drive and 17th (in Rock Creek Park), since the spring or early summer? There are always puddles in some places and the whole stretch is wet. (more…)
