“Dear PoPville,

We’ve been really appreciative of you updating past wedding suggestion posts as we plan our own wedding — we actually sourced both our venue and caterer from your recent posts. Thank you! However, more important than both of those vendors, would you mind putting out the call for an updated after party post? We noticed a few suggestions on the last one were closed. Looking to accommodate about 60+ people looking for something lively and good drinks in Logan Circle/Shaw after 11 pm on a Saturday. Thanks so much for all of the help!”

“Dear PoPville,

Now that the politics of Initiative 77 has quieted down and it’s in the Council’s hands, I have a practical question. I am completely comfortable with how I tip servers and bartenders, but the conversation around the initiative brought to my attention how many other roles operate on the tipped minimum wage. There are many I truly didn’t realize. I am curious what others in the community tip these roles.

What do you tip at the nail salon? Car wash? Valet? Other roles I’m not even aware of?

Ed. Note: I’ll add – barber, delivery drivers and taxi/lyft drivers?

“Dear PoPville,

My husband was biking to a conference yesterday (June 26) at 14th and F NW when he was almost run off the road by a Caucasian guy driving a white truck with a billboard that read “God speaks through the Donald’s Tweets”. The guy yelled a racial epithet at my husband and then made a fist at him. To try to avoid getting hit by the truck, my husband biked away quickly so he didn’t catch the license plate number. “Dear PoPville,

Which are the best pools for lap swimming? I already swim at Wilson, but I’d like to find another place to swim that’s more convenient. And I’d like a change just to keep it interesting. Are there any outdoor pools with dedicated lap lanes?”

“Dear PoPville,

I was just wondering if you’re aware of the dangerous block of 14th street where the Whitman Walker building used to be. The bike lane completely disappears for that block, and the temporary pedestrian walkway is not separated from traffic. A friend of mine had a scooter accident there this week. There is no way this should be legal. I am also trying to find the appropriate ANC commissioner to investigate. Thought that PoPville would be a good place to start to get readers’ input on how to proceed?”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping someone can help me figure out a question I have about changing my name with the DMV. I got married last year and have changed my name with Social Security, but have yet to receive my updated card.

Can I go to DC DMV with my marriage license and get my name changed without the updated Social Security card? I’m reading conflicting information online and can’t get a straight answer when calling 311.

“Dear PoPville,

My wife and I just welcomed our first babies to the world, and we are interested in hiring a night nurse to help us get through the sleepless nights. We’ve contacted some of the popular doula agencies, and for the most part their rates are consistent (expensive). A friend found a great nurse through a personal recommendation, and the rate was much more competitive as she was an independent operator not affiliated with an agency (but very highly recommended). Unfortunately she is all booked up. I was wondering if any readers knew anyone they could recommend? Thanks!”

“Dear PoPville,

Anyone have experience getting a “reserved” (I.e. one permit holder only) parking space in front of their house? My house doesn’t have its own parking space, but my back fence is right on the street, no sidewalk. I noticed some houses around DC have a specific permit number requirement on the parking signs for just one space, which I assume is for just one car owner. I know it is a public street but how have others done this? Pay a fee to the city and agree to maintain it or something? I’m thinking about getting an electric car, so having a reserved space would be great, if possible.”

“Dear PoPville,

Our car was hit by an Uber driver last week while he was carrying a passenger. Uber’s insurance will cover the damage, but only up to what they assess repairs should be, based on the pictures we sent them. Our car is currently undriveable, due to the damage to the passenger side, and it may be a pretty costly repair to get everything right. I’m concerned that Uber will underbid the damage, coupled with the risk of going to a repaid shop that will overbid the cost of work. So my question is two-fold; has anyone gone through this process and have advice working with Uber and their insurance company, and more importantly, anyone have a reputable repair shop for a Prius that’s in the DC/Maryland area? Thanks!”
