“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if we could get some traction on the issue we are having with the USPS deliveries in the NE neighborhood of Eckington. USPS has been less than consistent in the last two years– particularly on a rainy or cold day– but what we are experiencing now might top it all.

Over the last week, all USPS deliveries have been held, including mail & packages. Instead of notifying residents, they simply have not delivered mail and packages are marked as unable to access doorway. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We have a neighbor (flipper?) who is renovating a house a few doors down from us. In April, they put up emergency no parking signs for a rollaway debris container, reserving three out of four parking spots in front of our house. They ended up only having the dumpster there for a week or so, but they kept the signs up for the full month to use it as parking for their contractor (MD plates). In May they put up new signs for another month, and this time-with just four days left on the permit- no dumpster has showed up, at all. They’ve just been using it as reserved parking this whole time, and the spaces sit empty on nights and weekends. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

There has been a beeping noise for 1 whole week. We can’t find the source!!! Similar to a dying battery in a smoke detector, maybe?

I live in a small converted condo- just 6 units. None of the folks in this building can explain the beeping and we’re sure it’s a neighbor who’s house is unoccupied.

Not sure who to call- non emergency lines go to 911. We don’t have the neighbors phone number. Is there a DC dept that could help? What on earth do we do? It’s been ONE.WHOLE.WEEK.

HELLLLLLLPPPPPPPP”

“Dear PoPville,

I accidentally missed my jury duty date in DC and curious if anyone has recommendations on how to handle. The website says I can attend the “show cause” hearings with the Chief Judge on Friday to explain myself. Has anyone done this and are there any tips I should know before doing so?”

“Dear PoPville,

My situation looks almost identical to the picture posted in the May 2011 post.”

Ed. Note: Unfortunately we lost those comments in a migration so reposting for current reader in same situation.

The pictured bird deserves some congratulations-she is expecting. She build a nest up in the corner of our back door overhang and has been settling in quite nicely.

However, as does happen, every time we take out the garbage or let the dog out into our back yard-the bird swoops out of the nest and perches on a nearby wire and bitches us out royally. Even her mate gets in on the smack talk.

Now I’m a pretty thick-skinned guy, so their hateful tweets do not bother me (too much). Under normal circumstances, I’d say that we’d just work this out: we’ll go out that door as infrequently as possible until the young are born and off on their own.

Here is the rub: (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’m sure that you have touched on this before, but hoping for a refresher. We own a condo in small building. We have wonderful tenants, however are looking to sell for financial reasons. What are the steps or recommendations on how to proceed with sale in a manner that is both fair and (of course) legal? Thanks!”
