“Dear PoPville,

I walk the stretch of U St between 17th and Florida everyday, and the sidewalk is a disaster. Already narrow, it’s beleaguered be empty tree boxes that take up half the sidewalk. Most of them are not cared for so the bricks come loose, and the boxes are full of mud. It’s one thing as someone who is able bodied, you have to take turns walking with pedestrians coming from the opposite direction. But for those who are in wheelchairs, this stretch of U Street is a no go zone.”

“Dear PoPville,

I am wondering if anyone knows of some nice, semi-private spots to have a small (and I mean myself, my fiancee, and an officiant) wedding ceremony. This wont take long, probably only about 15 minutes, but we’d like to be somewhere nice and beautiful if possible. DC does have technical permit requirements for this, but I want to avoid that route.

I’ve thought about Rock Creek in general, or maybe in the arboretum? I haven’t gotten much more specific than that. If anyone knows a nice quiet place, that’d be great. I am also thinking about indoor options as well as a back up.”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m wondering where people purchase their suits from. Any recommendations on how many suits are recommended for lasting through the work week, with enough coverage into the following week? Do people tend to buy fitted, off-the-shelf and tailor? Or go completely custom made? I’m looking for slim fit, as I have a very slender frame.”

“Dear PoPville,

Several neighbors (and possibly others) received certified letters this weekend saying that AT&T was planning on putting a 5G light pole on our block–I imagine people throughout the city are receiving letters like this, unless ours is the only pole (at 16th and T Streets NW). They included drawings and some information, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Attending the Nats game next Friday and will not have time to eat beforehand like I normally try to do (great restaurants within feet of the park!)

I saw that Nats Park has upgraded its concessions and new additions include ChiKo, Medium Rare, DC Empanadas, and lobster rolls. Curiously, there are aren’t really reviews of any of the new options available online from actual game goers. I’d love to know what food is recommended by the popville community inside the stadium.”

Ed. Note: Mine is 100% ChiKo.

“Dear PoPville,

I am interested in taking a course or participating in a program that would help me develop facilitation skills, such as how to successfully facilitate a workshop or meeting. I’d like to do this as professional development at my current job, so something that takes place in the evenings or a crash course over a few days would be preferred. Does anyone have recommendations of facilitation courses or organizations that they would recommend? Thank you!”

“Dear PoPville,

I am reaching out regarding what happened to me on Sunday in Washington D.C: at around 2:05am, I was crossing the street on Florida Avenue NW, at the crossroads with Georgia Avenue NW, when I was hit by a car, a dark colored SUV. The car was traveling southbound on Georgia Ave NW and attempted to make a left turn, heading eastbound on Florida Ave NW. I was crossing the street guided by the walk signal and had the right-of-way at the time of the collision. The person, a black male with dreadlocks according to the police report, apparently quickly stopped the vehicle to check on my welfare but then fled the scene, continuing Eastbound and without making their identity known. Unfortunately, no one had the time to write down the car tags. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Any suggestions on support/meet up groups for family members of metastatic cancer patients? Metastatic cancer is the big bad cancer that comes after breast cancer, and is terminal, e.g. it’s what’s going to kill you unless a bear eats you.

I have a family member going through it right now, and even though the median age of survival is 3 years once diagnosed, she’s onto year 5 but is starting to hit a bit of a wall. Wanted to reach out and see if folks know of places to chit chat with other folks who’ve got family members with the dreaded mess.”
