Thanks to Sylvia for sending on Friday:

“They are repaving swann between 16 and 17 NW. Today was dig up the road day. This car didn’t move and instead of towing it they just left the car on its own little piece of street and dug around it. It doesn’t even have tickets on it! How do I get this treatment? If I am 2 min late for street cleaning, my cars already been towed 3 blocks away.”

“Dear PoPville,

PSA, any one else experiencing census people casing your building? My DC condo building last night had a person with an iPad spending a lot of time in the hallways documenting units and I confirmed with my front desk staff that she provided ID and was allowed access to the building free-range beyond the lobby. “Dear PoPville,

I live in a small condo building (~20 small units) and we’re looking into installing exterior security cameras. Our building is on a busy one-way street (4 bus lines, near major roads, and close to emergency health services). We don’t have a huge budget at the moment so we’re hoping there are options that don’t cost several thousand dollars. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was hoping readers could help with suggestions for a construction nuisance we’re dealing with in my building.

Our building has ~16 spaces along the backside of it, with traffic in the alley. On a daily basis, construction vehicles for a project on the next street over use the alley for access to the construction site, and block the entire alley. Most days it’s with their work trucks, on special days we get cement trucks that are completely immovable. The reality is that I’ve been late to doctor’s appointments, other residents can’t get to work, etc.

The issue we’re running into is, of course, enforcement. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

The house my husband and I rent changed ownership, and property management, a couple months ago. We came home from work yesterday to find our water shut off. We’ve since learned from the new property manager that the prior owner/property manager hadn’t paid (or transitioned) the water bill for many, many months. They’ve now paid DC Water and we are told the water will either be turned back on today…or Monday. (more…)

2nd/3rd Mass. and H Street, NW

Lauren asks: “Anyone know the history on this building? On the corner of H & 2nd NW.”

We used to get this question like clockwork but were last asked back in 2015.  We’ve previously learned that this is a ventilation shaft for the 395 highway tunnel below. The artist responsible for the awesome mural, Val E. Lewton, passed away in 2015.

Others have commented that: “It’s been known unofficially for years as the Nixon Memorial.”

Katherine asked us on Twitter and got a pretty passionate response: “Any recommendations for tea places in DC? Asking for myself.”

The most were given for Calabash, Ching Ching Cha, Teaism, Sidamo, The Wydown, Grace Street Coffee and The Line Hotel.

Any other good spots out there?

“Dear PoPville,

Are noise complaints about trash trucks worth filing? Every few weeks an incredibly loud trash truck shows up at a nearby building around 6:30 a.m. and moves a dumpster back and forth for an hour. I’m thinking of filing a complaint with the Department of Consumer & Regulatory Affairs because it’s before the 7 a.m. legal start time, but not sure whether anything will happen and curious what proof would be most useful (a video?). If it matters, this is in a mixed residential and commercial block near Thomas Circle. Thanks!
