“Dear PoPville,

“Dear PoPville,

Like many people, I live in a house in Petworth which was built over 100 years ago. I’ve always been curious about who has inhabited the house, starting with the first tenants, but I have no idea where I could look up this information. Can we ask your very awesome and very good looking audience to see if anyone knows how/where to start digging for this type of information? I am aware that if there is a place to go ask for this information, they may receive a flood of requests during the Covid shutdown. My apologies.”

Maybe there can be a virtual House History workshop?

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve run into a situation this week and I’m wondering if others are also dealing with the same thing. With the quarantine I’ve had a lot of extra time lately so naturally I’ve been doing some spring cleaning to get rid of items and clean up my front garden. I’ve filled up both my recycling & garbage bins to brim. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I’ve moved into a new house and the lot beside me is vacant and owned by the DC government according to tax records (there is no building on it…just overgrown). Has anyone tried to buy vacant residential land from DC? If so, what was your experience?

“I inherited an old gas grill and it’s beyond repair. I’m looking into getting a new grill, but would need the old one removed first. Any recommended services for removal? Anyone had success buying one and getting the old one hauled out by the same vendor?”

“Dear PoPville,

I live in Adams Morgan and wrote to my apartment management when they closed amenities in March due to COVID-19 to see if they would be willing to reduce the rent. While we certainly agree with their decision, we chose the apartment building specifically for the amenities, and pay a lot of money to use the rooftop, gym, lounge, courtyard, and other perks. With these being closed, we thought it was fair to request a bit of reduction in our rent, especially considering the financial uncertainty of these times. Management wrote back saying they were open to negotiations but first wanted to know if other apartments have done the same before making a decision on the amount. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We need people to sign this petition please

DC residents, especially my service industry friends receiving unemployment, please take two minutes to sign this letter and support undocumented workers in the District.

Mayor Bowser undocumented immigrants who pay taxes to DC every year, should not be left out of the cash assistance bill. We are not expendable. Our work is not invisible.

Thanks to Bort for sending from Frager’s, Eastern Market, Saturday.

*This series will feature any pets in a backpack/bag. On metro, or not. Corgi, or not.

And while I got a photo of seeds up there – another reader would like to know:

“I’m looking for a good, appropriately socially distant way to get flowers/ plants/ seeds during this. Are there any nurseries/ farmstands/ local growers offering pre-paid delivery or pick-up?
