“Dear PoPville,

Has anyone ever dealt with a gas appliance installation that did not have a permit pulled?

I had a high efficiency gas furnace installed in my DC rowhouse in December, replacing the same model that had stopped working.

After the install, I discovered there was a dc energy rebate ($700!) that I was eligible for, but it required the DCRA permit id in order to submit. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Ticket patrol almost nailed about 8 cars on my street for parking in the wrong direction. 2000 block of 8th between Florida and V NW. The problem is my block had switched to one way during the construction of a new building which replaced Towne. The one way signs were removed about 2 months ago but people continued to treat it as 1 way. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Good Samaritan Alert: ER Doc named Paul on the Chain Bridge on Saturday March 6th around 1pm

On Saturday March 6th at about 1pm, I had just crossed Chain Bridge when I saw a car with his flashers on and the driver out and using his phone in the Glebe Road approach to the bridge from Virginia. There was a person crumpled in a heap on the ground in front of his car. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about DC tax refund statuses? The DC Office of Tax and Revenue has a dead link up on their website for checking the status of refunds – I haven’t been able to reach anyone to get any information! Wondering if any of your readers who have filed their tax returns have received their refunds yet.

“Dear PoPville,

I live next to a construction site and the noise has become unbearable. The new building is at my units level now and I’m going crazy listening to hammering for 12 hours a day. It’s also weird that the construction workers can look in my one and only window all day unless I keep the curtains closed. Is there any way to get out of this lease early? I can’t live in this dark box anymore.”

Chivalry is Not Dead
3pm-ish Mission Dupont

You: Very tall, Bean boots, dark hair, let me cut the bathroom line
Me: Tall, long blonde hair, black crop top and green yoga pants

Wish I had gotten up the nerve to strike up a conversation when you walked by.”

Ed. Note: If this is you, please email [email protected] so I can put you in touch with OP. PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about passed missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

“Dear PoPville,

We did a cash-out refinance in DC and were charged a recordation tax (“state mortgage tax / stamps to hold for recording”) in addition to the recordation fee. It seems to us that we shouldn’t have been charged the tax. Can real estate lawyers in the Popville cotillion help us either be convinced we were correctly charged the tax or prove to our lender and settlement company why this was incorrect? This is for an owner-occupied home in DC with no other units. Any help you all can provide would be greatly appreciated!
