“Dear PoPville,

The Whitman-Walker Institute at LIZ on 14th and R St NW is partnering with the American Red Cross in Washington, DC, to reach out to gay and bisexual men about a new research study regarding blood donation eligibility. The study is called Assessing Donor Variability And New Concepts in Eligibility (ADVANCE).

The purpose of the ADVANCE study is to assess if specific questions may be able to determine individual HIV risk in men who have sex with men (MSM) in order to remove the current ban on gay and bisexual men from donating blood. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

A tall, thin, dark haired gentleman carrying a black backpack getting his vaccine at Rosedale Rec Center in northeast right around noon today (Friday)! He may have been smiling at me through his mask, or maybe I was just projecting through the haze of receiving my second shot. Who is this vaxxed king?”

“There was a handsome man (black vest, striped socks and brown shoes) sitting next to me at the Rosedale Rec Center in NE after getting our vaccinations at around noon today (Saturday 4/10). He said hello as I was sitting but we were 6 ft apart and it seemed inappropriate to strike up a conversation in that setting. As I was leaving, I looked back and thought, damn I should’ve said something. Figured here’s my chance!”

PoPville is not affiliated with either party, please proceed with any potential connection at your own risk using caution as you would any online encounter. For those curious about past missed connections, some have been made and when possible I’ll try to update when/if more are made.

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if anyone knows about open movie theaters in the DC area?

I saw the post a few weeks ago about the boards coming down outside of Atlantic Plumbing (yay!) but they seem to still be closed. I’m recently vaccinated and hoping to be able to return to a theater soon so any info you or others may know would be greatly appreciated!”

I was told at the time (late March) that because it was a leftover dose, I couldn’t schedule a second dose appointment. I had been preregistered in D.C. vaccination system and emailed the D.C. Department of Health them to let them know I had only received a first dose and couldn’t schedule a second dose with the original provider.

I received this reply from DOH a week later: (more…)
