“Dear PoPville,

I desperately need some help. DC tax office sent me this notice attesting I owe them about $4,200 for the 2017 tax period however I never worked or lived in dc that year (only lived in dc April-dec 2018). I spent 3 hours on hold last week waiting to talk to tax rep with no luck. I emailed them my 2017 tax return early last week with no response. I printed 42 pages of my 2017 to walk in the office however walkins are closed and the building security said no one has come to that office in a while. Adding insult to injury, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Had a really weird bike theft incident and was curious if anyone has experienced a similar situation before. Last Saturday night (5/1), I’d left my bike locked up for a few hours outside a friend’s place on H St. When I went to ride home, I noticed my front wheel had been detached but was at least still there. I assumed someone had tried to steal it but didn’t succeed, and I managed to get it back on and rode home without giving it much more thought. I haven’t ridden since last weekend, and it took me until this morning to realize that the front wheel on my bike is not actually my wheel. (more…)

Avi asks: “what’s up with the barbed wire and fencing around all the trees on embassy row? Is there a anti tree group from which they need protection?”

Dave notes that “DDOT required when road work is going to be done near trees” but still I don’t think I’ve seen these with barbed wire before…

“Dear PoPville,

Figured I would share my misfortune for the greater good! We have lived in a stereotypical “flipped” rowhome the last 3 years. So far, it has treated us well with the exception of mice that have suddenly appeared over the last few weeks. After calling a pest control company I was shocked to learn from the tech before he even had a chance to look around my home for entry points that “they’re getting in behind a kitchen appliance.” (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have any up-to-date vet recommendations for new clients? We just got a new puppy and none of the vets near us (H St) are taking new clients. It is very frustrating as he is due soon for his third set of shots and we don’t want him to go a month or more without them, which is shaping up to be the situation in our area. I am sure we are not the only ones in this boat.”

“Dear PoPville,

Inquiry about the Cardozo high school track. I spent the entire front end of the pandemic working out there during the week and grew to love it. They closed at the end of 2020 and eventually put up a sign that said they’d be back in February. I go weekly and the sign is still there and gates locked. Any ideas?”

“Dear PoPville,

Does anyone have advice on who to contact at the Washington Post about an odd delivery problem? We subscribe to the WaPo and the WSJ. Two copies of the WaPo are delivered daily. It’s a recycling hassle. We only want one copy. And, the double paper business means that attempts to cancel newspaper delivery when we’re out of town fail. This has been occurring ever since a new delivery person took over the route, over a year ago. Emails to customer service hit the black box of nothingness. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I keep hearing the dog park is the place to meet people, maybe it’s true! I had a long chat with Lucie the husky’s dad at the Newark St. dog park on Saturday, but left quickly when the rain started without getting his name. Now that our dogs figured out how to play together, puppy and coffee date? (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We are looking to remodel a row house bathroom and kitchen, replacing the tile, countertops, maybe a new space plan, but keeping the cabinets (maybe painting them). We need a designer to help us figure out how to make the most out of the space we have, help with overall design, and pick tiles etc. The big bath/kitchen design firms won’t work with you if you are not gutting the room.

Can anyone suggest good designers for projects like this? Thanks!”
