“Dear PoPville,

This past week I have been abruptly stopped by the same person in a short purple wig riding on a scooter in both AdMo (Monday evening) and last night (Thursday) on 14th St. NW. He got the attention of my friend and I last night for a moment, asking us to choose a number between 1 and 3, (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Question about car crahses in DC. Apparently the DC cops don’t come to fender benders or other accidents unless someone needs medical attention and an ambulance needs to be called.

I was not at fault and it took 4 months for the other party to make up a lie about hitting my car and now my insurance is liable to pay even though not at fault.

What has anyone else experienced in this situation? I called the cops after the accident and was told to simply go through insurance and then that backfired.”

“Dear PoPville,

My husband and I desperately need a licensed, insured, bonded company to remodel our shower. We hired someone referred by our realtor to do that in September and his crew flooded our unit and those below us (we’re on the top floor), put up the tile walls horribly and in a way that definitely wasn’t watertight (thankfully didn’t test it) so they tore out the walls and put up new ones. “Dear PoPville,

I’ve lived in the Tiber Island Co-operative in SW DC since 2015. Every fall my south facing corner studio apartment gets to over 91 degrees in the fall. I know that DC requires that buildings transition from A/C to heat around October 15th but this is crazy. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

Thought this email from my building (Capitol View on 14th) might be of interest to readers. I know rents in DC are fluctuating a lot and there is a lot of anxiety and angst among my friends who got covid deals but are worried about renewing. Here, my building is clearly trying to hedge their bets on rent increases so they are NOT offering me a lease renewal, but a month-to-month at current rate. I’m sure it’s not illegal, just seems shady.

“Dear PoPville,

I used to plan events in DC regularly for work in the Before Times™. However, as I get back into event planning for 2022, I’m finding a lot of places in the District do not have vaccine mandates for staff or guests. Regardless of people’s views on this, many older and vulnerable people attend our events, so it’s my responsibility to host our events at the safest places possible. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

On Saturday night I was out with a friend in Logan Circle when I used the Uber app to select an UberX to come take me home around 10:20 PM. I was connected with a driver pretty quickly, but she messaged me in the app saying that the map would not show her moving until I gave her my phone number–that there was “an update to the app.” I had recently read about some other sketchiness in Uber on PoPville, so I didn’t respond as I was chatting with my friend about how I thought it was a scam.
