I live in a residential building in Dupont Circle and am seeking advice from the community regarding renting, construction sites, and quality of life.
The building directly adjacent (shares a wall with the entire length of my apartment) is being demolished to build a new high rise apartment building. What makes this situation a bit different than usual is that our management company is also constructing the new adjacent high rise apartment building. Therefore, our management company is directly responsible for making our rented living space “unworkable” and “unlivable” from 7 am to 5 pm. (more…)

Does the US Postal Service have a new policy on how we close envelopes? I was at the US Post Office on 14th Street waiting in line and I realized one of my card was not sealed. So since I was already in line, I licked it closed.
The postal worker saw me and yelled across the room – you can’t do that. I’m not going to accept that envelope.
When it was my turn I asked the staff how long I would have to wait before coming back to send the card. She said she would not accept a locked envelope and I could buy a new envelope. Her coworker added that I had to use a “blue glue stick”. (more…)

Martha writes us earlier this morning: “Advice to holiday revelers, traveling through DCA: allow yourself extra time. There’s quite a bit of construction here and the security lines are longer than I thought they’d be at this early hour! Pre-check was faster – but still more people than I thought would be in line at 5:30 a.m.!”
Incidentally – are many folks headed out of town this year? If so, when are you leaving? Coming back? Safe travels to all who are!

I was on the corner of O and 9th NW tonight (Nov 15) at around 8pm, walking south; she was about to cross O heading north. She was absolutely beautiful, had her hair in a ponytail, and was wearing a black sweater with some sort of design on the front; I think she was also carrying a bag of groceries? I was in jeans, brown boots, and a black jacket. We made eye contact, then I looked down, and when I looked up she was still looking at me and smiled!
