“Dear PoPville,

I’m hoping the hive mind can help me with this crazy estimate to move my gas meter.

As part of a renovation, I need to move my Washington Gas meter from inside the basement to outside (just on the other side of the wall). Washington Gas contracts with third party vendors to do the work. In this case it’s Miller Pipeline. I was floored when I received this estimate today of over $6,000 dollars. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

I am looking for a specific beer – what would be the best way to find which store in DC might carry it other than simply calling every store to check? The beer in question is Echigo Koshihikari beer in case any readers wish to help me out. I’ve already checked TotalWine and Drizly and several other Google results.”

“Dear PoPville,

For background, a bunch of folks who use the Rush Rink at Watkins Rec have submitted many maintenance tickets to ask DGS to fix this light and deal with other issues with the space, like the metal benches that have completely pulled out of their moorings. I estimate that between 15-20 tickets have been filed over the years, with little response. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,

We are looking for a landscaper to help us maintain the facade of the building on California Street NW. We are traveling often and can’t attend to the plants on a regular basis and we just need someone who can help us with watering, weeding and pruning. This can be done on a monthly basis. Do you know of anyone who might be interested in this type of task and approximate pricing?”

“Dear PoPville,

I was wondering if we could talk about the monkey pox vaccine. Seeing how as DC has the highest incidence per capita, and is now offering a vaccine, I was thinking it might be interesting to know how many people actually went to try to get a vaccine and if they were able to get one or got turned away or what the lines were like etc.

14th and Fairmont St, NW

“Dear PoPville,

The whole complex has chain link fencing around it and all of the first floor windows are boarded up.
People were living there just days before. Any clue what happened to these apartments?”

“Can we do something about Community Forklift? Can we petition to Washington Gas? Not sure if anyone knows about how to fight these battles but we cannot let them close down.. so sad!”

“Did you see yesterday’s DCist article about Community Forklift’s search for a new location? Learn more about Community Forklift’s history, our team, the people we serve, and more about why we need to find a new home. In short, the landlord of our current location, Washington Gas, plans to discontinue commercial use of the site and so we’ll need to relocate at some point. We aim to stay open in our current building until a new site is located, though, so please continue to visit us at 4671 Tanglewood Dr. in the Edmonston/Hyattsville, MD, area! (more…)
