“help in locating the cremains of the dog, “Ryder”

“Dear PoPville,

I am reaching out for help from the community. I am guardian for a woman whose beloved dog Ryder was euthanized earlier this month. I am writing to ask help in locating the cremains of the dog, “Ryder”. His actual owner is in a nursing home and is devastated.

UPS alleges to have delivered the cremains to my office, 419 7th St. NW, Suite 405. They say someone signed “Aguilera” and accepted the package which included a rosewood box and a paw print. “Dear PoPville,

Just had another cyclist scold me (last night), while we were both in motion on Georgia Ave, about my lack of a rear light. However, my bike has both a flashing LED front light and a rear reflector. I know that bike safety is a common topic here, so I thought it would be worth calling out two points:

1) Each bike, when in use at night, is required to have a front lamp and a red reflector on the rear. A rear light is NOT required, but is recommended. A helpful resource is the DC Bike Law Pocket Guide

2) Don’t yell at other cyclist while in motion in traffic! Distractions are dangerous

“I never received my mail in ballot”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m assuming others have had this same issue, but I wanted to let readers know that if you haven’t received a mail-in-ballot (which DC automatically sends), then you need to call DC Board of Elections to request a new ballot. Electronic ballot requests ended on 10/15 and now you can only request a ballot to be sent to an address different from what’s on your voter registration.

DC BOE’s tracking system shows my ballot was mailed 21 days ago. (more…)

“PSA: These vehicular death traps have been installed on every block of 9th Street NW between H and E Streets NW.”

“Dear PoPville,

I knew they had been installed, but others didn’t because twice today, cars almost slammed into my driver’s side, trying to get over at the last second and avoid running into these.

Why on earth would DDOT install these pedestrian corrals(?) in the middle of a lane on a busy thoroughfare like 9th Street?”

“Predator on 21st & L”

“Dear PoPville,

Wednesday night (10/19) around 6pm, I was stopped by a 6’2” muscular man wearing a blue baseball hat, blue long sleeve shirt, jeans, and a dark puffer vest on the corner of 21st & L Street NW. I had my head buried in my phone when he asked me where to find Peet’s coffee. I told him to try For Five Coffee Roasters.

He told me he just moved to DC from NYC. He kept the focus of the conversation on coffee but was clearly trying to hit on me. He told me that he’s here to take girls like me to coffee. His body language was predator-like: he kept getting closer to me even as I backed away, and when I started to walk away, he stuck out his hand and told me his name. I shook his hand. This was my mistake. He immediately pulled me in and pushed his face against mine. I pushed him away and told him to get off. My mind went blank. (more…)
