Construction Starts at Lowe’s first DC store coming near Costco

“It looks like they are breaking ground for the Lowe’s at The Shops at Dakota Crossing. They’ve actually made quite a bit of headway, as the ground has been completely leveled, and it was a bit bumpy and bushy a month ago. You can see the Costco in the background. There were lots of trucks and large crane type machines around, as well as about 20 hardhats on a lunch break. This will be the first Lowe’s in DC and the second big box home improvements store.”

Botanica Boricua coming to former Lamont Video Store space in Mt. Pleasant

Botanica Boricua will be taking over the vacated space formerly filled by Lamont Street Video which closed back in March. They should be able to fill the void leftover when Botanica Yemaya & Chango closed in Adams Morgan after 15 years last April.

Upshur Street Books Launches Kickstarter Today

“Today Upshur Street Books launched a Kickstarter campaign to raise money for the new neighborhood bookstore on Upshur Street in Petworth. This is a new project by the same team behind Petworth Citizen and Crane & Turtle. The bookstore will focus on literary fiction and poetry, art books, children’s books and local authors and will be the first stand-alone, independent bookstore selling new books to open in in DC in 20 years.

Upshur Street Books will complement the Reading Room at Petworth Citizen, home to a Free Book Library and a rotating list of literary events.
