Does anyone have any recommendations for local card shops? I used to work near 14th and loved Miss Pixie’s for quirky cards, but am now closer to Federal Triangle (aka a food/store/anything desert). Any recommendations for local card shops in this area or around town that I should explore?”

“Shop Made in DC, the first brick and mortar store stocked exclusively with DC brands, will open a second location at The Wharf in Southwest D.C. on February 12th. Located at the corner of Maine Avenue and 9th Street SW, the second Shop Made in DC will be exclusively retail-focused, [Ed. Note: no cafe]with established, independent DC-based brands such as Bailiwick and Cherry Blossom Creative along with newcomers like Annie Margot and Sharlaine Anapu Jewelry.
The 1,400 square-foot retail shop features an industrial aesthetic with a mural by local artist Meg Biram, along with a plant canopy installation by Jungle & Loom. Curated by Stacey Price of People Make Place, Shop Made in DC’s second location will continue its mission of low-entry to marketplace for DC creatives to sell their goods and increase visibility of their brands while stimulating the local economy. I’ve worked in Chinatown/Mount Vernon for about eight years now, and the recent spate of business closings is jarring! Just got word the Starbucks next to the Walmart is closing, which is hot on the heels of the Au Bon Pain and Capital One closing on the same block. (more…)

“Target will celebrate the grand opening of its newest Washington, D.C. small-format stores, in Cleveland Park and at Georgia & Eastern, on April 7, 2019. Both stores will begin hiring for more than 100 total team members at events on Feb. 8-9.
The Cleveland Park store is located at 3505 Connecticut Ave. NW, across from the Cleveland Park Metro stop, and will host hiring events at the Omni Shoreham Hotel. The Georgia & Eastern store is located at 7828 Georgia Ave. and will host its hiring events at the Montgomery College Cultural Arts Center.
These two new stores mark Target’s fifth and sixth small-format stores in the greater D.C. area. (more…)
