One Thomas Circle, NW
Thanks to Cameron for sending:
“Whatttt – just heard West Wing at Thomas Circle was closing on FRIDAY! and a Wawa is going in its place. (Coworker spoke to the cashier!)”
Stay tuned for updates as the Wawa gets closer to opening.

504 K Street, NW
Back in May we reported that a 7-Eleven was coming to 5th and K Street, NW.
Thanks to Eric for sending an update:
“Looks like they’re trying to compete with the “Urban Wawa” concept?
With Safeway and Chaia a block away, and Taco Bamba two blocks away, why would anyone go here for groceries or tacos?
Wish Ace Hardware came back instead!”
Rachelle Nigro, Commissioner 6E04 writes on her Facebook:
“FYI–7-11 is coming just south of 6E04 near 5th and K St. They are leasing the space that used to be the old paint store. This store will have a Laredo Taco Company which will make made to order tacos. (more…)

“Dear PoPville,
This Saturday we and other DC brands Nos Nos and Charix are launching a design showroom in the Cheshire, an old Adams Morgan luxury car garage built in 1906. We’re aiming to covert the space, which has been empty for a while now, into a hub for creativity, sustainability, and entrepreneurship.” (more…)

944 Florida Avenue, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I took these photos this afternoon from the corner of Florida Avenue and W Street NW (across from the future Whole Foods). Any idea what this will be?”
This is the former home to Darnell’s/Blind Dog Cafe/Mocha Lounge. I feel like I remember posting that this was going to become a nail salon but I can’t find the post. Does that sound familiar to you guys?

1055 5th Street, NW
Thanks to Michael for sending word that CitySwing had opened in the former Ace Hardware space.
Their website says:
“CitySwing is an immersive pop up golf experience in the heart of the city. We believe golf should be convenient and accessible to everyone. Our space was created for a wide range of golfers – from those addicted to the game to those that have never imagined themselves participating. Think of us as an alternative to outdoor golf when time, weather or proximity prohibit traditional play and as an inclusive and non-intimidating place to practice, or simply get introduced to the game. We are passionate about 3 things: (more…)

Ed. Note: See our discussion on D.C.’s best bookstores here.
From a press release:
“Idle Time Books, an iconic neighborhood bookstore in Adams Morgan DC, will rename itself as Lost City Books. The new name, brand, and identity follows the retirement of founder Val Morgan and the sale of the bookstore in January 2019. While under new ownership, the store plans to remain in Adams Morgan indefinitely and is dedicated to remaining the neighborhood staple that Idle Time Books has been: a fantastic and idiosyncratic institution that proudly served the neighborhood for 36 years. Wisconsin and P Street, NW
“Dear PoPville,
I am saddened to report that driving by the former Neams grocery and Marvelous Market in Georgetown (corner of Wisconsin and P across from Thomas Sweet), I saw that this property is becoming a Chase bank.
This is such sad news as this property, though long vacant has so much potential including parking and outdoor seating space. Do people even go to banks anymore? This seems like such a waste of a neighborhood gem.” (more…)
