About a year ago White Tiger closed and it looked like Pete’s aPizza would be opening up a location in the space. Obviously that didn’t work out but now a liquor license application lists a new restaurant, Romea & Juliet, will go into the space:

“New restaurant serving American food. No entertainment. Seating for 90 patrons, Total occupancy load is 90. Sidewalk Café with seating for 170 patrons.”

More info when it becomes available.

Farewell White Tiger sign – you were a sweet one:

Baby Wale was a bit ambitious in hoping for a June opening by the Convention Center at 1124 9th St, NW. But some serious progress has been made. Check out this awesome new front:

A peek in the window reveals, while a lot of progress (though is that a tree in the back?) has been made, it still looks like they’re a couple of months off:

In November 2012 a liquor license said:

“A casual restaurant serving roast chicken and lobster sandwiches to local residents with a seating capacity for 150 people. Total occupancy load of 150.”

Stay tuned.

How it looked in April:

Back in May I shared some scuttlebutt that a new restaurant from Jackie Greenbaum was coming to the former Cajun Experience space. Greenbaum is owner of Jackie’s in Silver Spring and El Chucho in Columbia Heights.  In July the scuttlebutt was confirmed. In addition to the name, Bar Charley, now comes more details from the Washington Post:

“A sneak peak [of the menu] reveals a lobster roll, bison sloppy joe, salt cod and spaghetti, smoked chicken thighs on dirty rice, shrimp and pork dumplings, papri chaat, and frankfurters with warm potato salad. Exceptions to those small plates (subject to change) will be two dishes designed for two: a wood-grilled steak and a whole fish.”

Standby for an expected August 22nd opening.

“Dear PoPville,

I stopped by the Washington Pizza on Randolph and 14 last night. Its under new ownership and they have an incredible deal of $5 for a large one topping pizza and a soda. The new owners are a little depressed about how slow business is. The pizza was great. Also, they will be opening the other side of it in a couple of weeks and will be selling the Indian food.”

Back in March 2012 we learned that Spike Mendelsohn would be opening another Good Stuff Eatery in the former Crepe Amour space 3291 M Street, NW.  You can see Good Stuff’s menu here.

Mendelsohn recently opened his steak-frites restaurant, Bearnaise, on Capitol Hill near the original Good Stuff Eatery.

@TheGeorgetownr tweeted yesterday:

“Hey @chefspike, a Little birdy told me that #Goodstuffeatery will be open this #Friday in #Georgetown. Is it true? Cause we are ready!”

Update from @chefspike:

“Proud to announce that #goodstuffeatery will be open in #Georgetown on Monday! Come by for your burger and shake fix 3291 M St NW on Monday”

From Paul Ruppert:

“We are going to extend our preview (1017 7th Street, NW) one more week at Hogo. So Makoto will be cooking in there through August 3.

“Petworth Citizen” is inspired by the community newspaper of the same name that chronicled Petworth neighborhood happenings from 1916 – 1951. “Petworth Citizen” will be a neighborhood bar (829 Upshur St, NW) with great bar food and a literary focus. The name also points to our intention to become a gathering place, welcoming neighbors from near and far.”
