Alphonse Italian Market & Osteria
1212 U Street, NW

Thanks to a reader for sending: “I think it looks pretty awesome.” I agree – very cool!

A few weeks ago we noted that Alphonse Italian Market & Osteria had applied for a liquor license at 1212 U St, NW:

“Restaurant serving prepared food with a market component. Seating capacity 101 and total occupancy load of 171.”

Ed. Note: While alcohol service will be Sunday through Thursday 11 am – 2 am and Friday & Saturday 11 am – 3 am – the application lists hours of operation as 24 hours.

A few weeks ago we noted that the Barcelona Restaurant and Wine Bar coming to the former BodySmith Gym space next to Miss Pixie’s was looking awesome. And now it’s ready to open. The place looks incredible. I stopped by yesterday while staff was being trained and was told they would quietly open up one day this week.

They’ve added an incredible new outdoor dining area:

Back in May we learned that Italy Pizza had closed at 634 Florida Ave, NW just east of 7th St/Georgia and near the Howard Theatre. Some may have noticed the front was painted – I finally was able to talk to some workers at the space and they tell me it will become pizza again in a few weeks. Not sure of the name or who exactly the owners will be but I’ll be sure to update with more info including the menu when they open. I hope the pizza is as good as the slices used to be at Italy Pizza. Stay tuned.

Though originally aiming for a July opening, the wait continues for Newton’s Noodles to open Downtown. On Sept. 27th they write on their facebook page:

“We apologize for any confusion and the delay. We are doing everything we can to get DCRA to give us the green light. We hope it will be by early next week. We will keep you posted. Thank you for your patience.”

You can see their menu here.

From an email:

“I wanted to send over the details of Sebastian Zutant’s second collaboration beer with DC Brau that’s launching Tuesday, October 1st. Sebastian is the co-owner/beverage director at The Red Hen.

This one is called the Dorcia and they’re brewing it by aging the Penn Quarter Porter on the lees of RdV’s Rendezvous blend in a Bordeaux barrel from Linden. It’s then removed and filtered. The result is a red wine driven, robust porter with a strong chocolate finish. It’s smoky, complex and great for fall.

They’ve made eight kegs and will be serving it for $9 a pint.”

I was psyched to see coming soon signage posted for Right Proper Brewing Company:

Back in June we noted Right Proper had applied for a liquor license.  We also noted they were begining to build out their front windows with copper edges.  Now you can see the space is really looking amazing.  It’s located right next to the Howard Theatre east of 7th Street.  Their website says they should open this Fall.  Stay tuned.
