China American Inn has been around as long as I can remember – but just noticed the space is now for rent. Fans of the cuisine shouldn’t worry too much – Dannie’s Carry Out remains open across the street at 830 Upshur St, NW. China American Inn was located right next to Willow near the Petworth Citizen:

King of Kabob opened up in the former Bao restaurant space on Vermont Ave just north of K Street back in July 2011. They opened up around the same time as a Grill Kabob restaurant across the street. I wondered if two kabob spots could open up so close to each other.

“Dear PoPville,

A friend recently asked me to help plan a dinner as a surprise for her significant other’s birthday in a few months. They live outside the beltway, as do most of their friends who will be joining us, but they would like to do a casual dinner in DC, and then head out to a few local bars afterwards.

As a resident of the District who has family visit semi-frequently, I know it can be very stressful to find a place for a large group to dine. I’ve had hosts/hostesses literally laugh in my face when I ask if they could seat 10 folks at my regular neighborhood hangouts.

Are there any restaurants that you would recommend that could seat a large group (15-20 in this particular case) on a Saturday night?”

Back in October I shared some scuttlebutt that the owners of Ripple in Cleveland Park would be taking over the former Reef space in Adams Morgan. Scuttlebutt confirmed:

“The team behind Ripple in Cleveland Park is thrilled to announce the launch of Roofers Union, a new concept opening in Adams Morgan in January 2014. Just as with Ripple, the menu at Roofers Union will be in step with the vision of talented young chef, Marjorie Meek-Bradley, who plans to showcase her unique take on casual, everyday cuisine in this neighborhood restaurant and bar.

Holy cow this spot turned out nice. Jeff Black’s [owner of Pearl Dive and Black Jack among many others] new spot, Republic, at 6937-6939 Laurel Ave not far from the Takoma metro is opening Sunday. Last night they had a preview opening and you can see Republic was well worth the wait. A huge score for Takoma and Takoma Park. Have a look:
