Holy cow – thanks to a reader for sending word. Suffice it to say Columbia Heights’ Ruby Tuesday has been a slightly controversial topic. So was TGIFridays but that has apparently fallen through. Though as far as I know IHOP is still doing well. So, it’s hard to say, are we seeing the beginning of the end of big restaurant chains in Columbia Heights?
Ed. Note: Previous Ruby Tuesday locations have closed in Van Ness and Chinatown.

More good news from Tryst:
“Tryst Coffeehouse, Bar & Lounge, located in the heart of Adams Morgan at 2459 18th Street, NW, is proud to announce a Bullfrog Bagels takeover this Saturday, November 22nd, where they will be offering a limited amount of DC’s much buzzed about Bullfrog Bagels for purchase from 6:30 a.m. until supplies last.
Tryst, a coffeehouse in Adams Morgan, opened its doors in 1998 and immediately became a neighborhood gathering place for the immediate community and city as a whole. It offers delicious specialty coffee, handcrafted cocktails and an extensive café menu of food options. Tryst always sells assorted bagels throughout the day topped with delicious spreads or with the incredibly popular Smoked Salmon Plate that features smoked salmon, red onion, tomato, capers and cream cheese with a bagel of choice. However, this weekend all of their bagels will be replaced by local, hand-rolled, boiled and baked artisan bagels from Bullfrog Bagels in DC’s Atlas District.
Bullfrog Bagels, located at 1341 H Street, NE, opened its doors just two months ago, after a series of successful pop-ups around the city this past summer. Establishing themselves as city favorites from day one, an opinion solidified by the Washington Post Express naming them their favorite DC bagel this September, they’ve been challenged to keep their freshly baked bagels on the shelves. While many fans liken Bullfrog’s bagels to classic NYC-style (of which DC’s infamously had something of a dearth), the man behind the secret signature recipe, Bullfrog Founder and Baker, Jeremiah Cohen, takes tremendous Stars and Bars pride in the fact that like himself, Bullfrog Bagels are born and bred Washingtonians made with DC water and raised with local wild yeast.”

From a press release:
“Restaurant industry veterans Jennifer Meltzer and Chef Edward Reavis are pleased to announce the upcoming opening of ALL SET RESTAURANT & BAR, a 4,730-square-foot restaurant at 8630 Fenton Street in downtown Silver Spring in early spring 2015.
All Set, a space designed by Streetsense and rooted in community, food and quality, is destined to change the social dining scene and become a staple in Silver Spring, the hometown of co-owner Jennifer Meltzer.
“After living in the city, I developed a greater appreciation for the sense of community, tradition and togetherness which Silver Spring offers”, said Meltzer. “I am extremely excited to bring Silver Spring a new gathering place to relax and enjoy genuine, personalized hospitality coupled with good food and drink”.
All Set Restaurant and Bar will put a contemporary twist on seasonally inspired dishes which reflect Chef-Owner Edward Reavis’ passion for fresh ingredients, nutritious foods and unforgettable flavors.
“The menu will feature American cuisine inspired by the traditions of coastal New England. Moderately priced, the menu consists of diverse offerings. The dishes available will be comforting and current, all while supporting local farmers and suppliers,” said Chef Edward Reavis.
All Set will be open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Guests will also be able to enjoy a relaxing brunch on weekends. The kitchen will serve a 125-seat dining room, 15-seat bar featuring a raw seafood display and a 24-seat outdoor patio. A private dining room is also available to accommodate private events.
All Set Restaurant + Bar will be conveniently located in the Montgomery Center which contains a three level parking garage and is also walking distance from the Silver Spring Metro Station, The Fillmore and two blocks from Discovery Worldwide and United Therapeutics Headquarters.”

From a press release:
“While the weather is colder and the nights are longer, ENO Wine Bar is serving Traditional Swiss Fondue. In a Fondue pot made for two, a blend of Emmental, Gruyère, and Kirschwasser are melted together for a warming winter pleasure. Served with diced bread, pickled pearl onions and cornichons, additional items for dipping include charcuterie, cherry tomatoes, and grapes for $2 each.
In keeping with Swiss Tradition and ENO’s friendly atmosphere, we remind our neighbors not to lose their bread in the pot. In Switzerland, if a man drops a piece of bread in the fondue pot, he must buy a round of drinks and a woman who drops bread must kiss all her neighbors; ENO is watching!
Fondue is available throughout the Fall and Winter starting at $19.”

“This is in the old Homemade Pizza at 14th and Church. Sounds interesting. I love me some maki rolls.”
HomeMade Pizza closed back in June and in September when Kushi closed in Mt. Vernon Square we learned that the owner was going to bring some sort of Japanese concept here. And Maki Shop it is. Stay tuned for an opening date.

Thanks to a reader for sending word about Yafa Grille’s (Shawarma•Falafal•Pita) new signage in the former PoBoy Shop space on 19th Street just north of M Street. A quick update from the owner – they have made a lot of progress and will open just after Thanksgiving “hopefully before mid December.”
