Very good news for Brightwood and north country. Thanks to a reader for sending the news about Salt and Pepper Grill III. Despite pleas to the neighborhood, Chocolate Crust closed (just south of Walmart) at the end of October. Salt and Pepper Grill II opened up a year ago at 14th and Shepherd St, NW. The original Salt and Pepper Grill is located at 2632 Georgia Ave, NW in Pleasant Plains. You can see their menu here.

Ed. Note: I just had Salt and Pepper Grill II delivered on Friday and it was freaking delicious.

To celebrate the opening on Thursday, The Yards location will be offering Dollarmania Thursday – Sunday (12/11-12/14)!

Dollarmania = all Montaditios are $1. (menu: 100M_MENU (PDF))

We’re also running 100 days of Happy Hour: $2 beers & Sangria. $3 premium beer & wine!

OPEN DAILY @ 11:00am!

Inspired by early 19th century Spanish taverns which were known for offering a unique combination of comfort and quick, personalized service, the 100 Montaditos’ design will feature hardwood or tile floors, granite countertops and tables, mood lighting and authentic images from the beautiful Spanish city of Cádiz. The combination of dark wood and vibrant cherry red walls will enhance the cozy and trendy ambiance of the space, complimented by a unique mixture of classic yet modern details such as elegant forged iron lamps, white marble, ceramic tiles and framed pictures adorning the walls. The restaurant prides itself on being a place to enjoy a delicious slice of Spanish cuisine and culture in a relaxing and friendly environment.

Aside from the montadito, the restaurant also serves salads, traditional Spanish beers and wines and such Spanish drinks as cava, a sparkling white wine similar to champagne; tinto de verano, a blend of red wine and lemon-lime soda; sangria, wine mixed with chopped fruit; and clara, a blend of Spanish draft beer and lemon-lime soda.”

From an email:

SUSHI BELLY TOWER December 9th, Washington, DC [email protected] SUSHI BELLY TOWER’s secret underground sashimi dinner is coming to Washington, DC, for a one-night-only event.

Founded by Michael Stember, Sushi Belly Tower presents nontraditional, underground full-kit food experiences—creating and serving the best version of all things. Stember cultivated his passion while at Stanford training for the Olympic Games, (he eventually ran in the Sydney Olympics) so the food he designs is a careful combination of fuel and art.

A Sushi Belly Tower dinner serves anywhere from 40 to 75 guests in cocktail-style interactive dinner feasts featuring a live band. Our popular sushi dinners includes 10 to 20 courses of sashimi, root vegetables, fresh herbs with multiple salts and oils and an unlimited open bar throughout the event. We showcase a live food design experience, plating each course directly in front of our guests. For us, an interactive feast includes an accessible, transparent process of food, art, music, and drink.

Tickets cost $175 plus applicable sales tax. Our pricing reflects the quality of our ingredients: grass-fed lamb, ultra-premium sashimi-grade fish, fresh herbs, rare oils, Wagyu beef flown in from Japan, and our top-shelf custom cocktail program.”

Thanks to a reader for passing on the email:

“To our friends & neighbors of our 19th Street, DC location [opened up at 19th and L St, NW back in Nov. 2012]

Today, we are closing our 19th Street location. In the spirit of honesty that is so important to us, we want to share the reasons for closing. The DC market has been tough for us. We struggled to build awareness of who we are and what we do. We also struggled early on with operations and, though we were eventually able to improve our operations, we unfortunately never were able to win back many of the guests that we had initially disappointed.

While boloco 19th Street was never able to fully get on its feet, it did have many fans for the two years that it was open. We are thankful to everyone who had a part in making that happen. We are thankful to you, our guests, and we are thankful to our team members. As such, we want to do all that we can to support our team members through this transition. We will be providing compensation to them through the end of this year and working closely with them to find jobs in the area.”
