A tipster sends word about the recently closed Taste of India:

“With the recent closure of Murphy’s of DC leaving us bereft, there’s a wee bit o’ sunshine on the horizon. While nothing will replace Murphy’s, particularly with it’s roaring fireplace on nights like this, “Taste of India” closed a couple of weeks ago and the folks who own Maddy’s are turning the space into … an Irish bar. Rumor is that the new space will be named “McIntyre’s” and is slated to open “sometime in March”.”

Ed. Note: Maddy’s currently has located in Dupont at 1726 Connecticut Ave. NW and at 13th and L St, NW.

In November we learned Murphy’s was closing after almost 30 years in Woodley Park and would be replaced by Italian restaurant Bar Civita.

A liquor license placard posted out front says Fig & Olive will be a:

“French restaurant with a total occupancy load of 528. Requesting an Entertainment Endorsement, Sidewalk Café with 54 seats and Summer Garden with 54 seats.”

You can check out the menus for their other locations here. Opening in CityCenter this spring. Updates when we get closer.

We knew it’d be early January for the 24 hour Surfide opening in Dupont – and today’s the day. Eater DC reports:

All items at the walk-up, 24-hour taco stand are under $10. The hours should appeal to Dupont’s bar crowd. “I just feel that D.C. is becoming more of a 24-hour city,” Blair said. “With all the hotel guests and taxi drivers and people in the hospitality industry, there are like 1,000 places in New York that are 24 hours, and only a couple in D.C.”

“Dear PoPville,

The Pitch: Awesome Addition to Petworth

This restaurant/bar is a great addition to the neighborhood. I had the shrimp and jerk chicken tacos tonight, which were really good. The beer was fresh and tasty, and the owners and manager were friendly and welcoming. Great atmosphere and this place definitely deserves a shout out.”

Ed. Note: I gave them some love last week. Here’s a look inside:
