From a press release:

“TaKorean is pleased to announce the opening of it’s first location in Northwest. The local fast-casual chain will debut an extended pop-up location in the Eat at National Place food hall located at 13th & F Street, NW early this summer.

With locations at Union Market in NE and The Yards in SE, TaKorean will now be able to service patrons in the heart of downtown Washington. “We’ve been eager to serve our existing base of food truck customers in this area and we’re excited to continue to grow our brand in the DC area,” says founder and CEO Mike Lenard. Eat at National Place is a sophisticated and vibrant food hall that opened in 2005. TaKorean will serve it’s delicious and unique menu at the new location.”

This spring TaKorean has introduced new menu items. Most notably, a seasonal vegetable is now permanently on the menu. Cauliflower is being offered this spring and is meant to be enjoyed in a tako or on a bowl. The cauliflower is pan-roasted with a soy orange glaze and is vegan. TaKorean has also added the option for brown rice as an alternative to white. “We’re so excited to be able to offer more vegetables and healthy options. Everyday we’re selling more balanced items and creating a new path for food culture,” says Lenard.

TaKorean has also added a new topping and two add-on options. TaKorean’s famous salsa roja is now available as a topping free of charge. Made with fire-roasted tomatoes, tomatillos, fresh ginger, cilantro, lime juice, sesame oil and gochujang, our Korean style salsa roja will surely add an extra kick to your bite! The new add-ons include a tangy vegan avocado crema that is made from scratch with fresh avocados, as well as an organic soft egg to be enjoyed on a rice or slaw bowl. The organic egg is sous vide and has the texture of a perfectly cooked poached egg. The new menu items are available at all locations.”

From a press release:

“As Washington, DC grows and expands, residents are more and more looking for their “own” neighborhood spots, and they’ll soon have one. Expected to open in late spring 2015, The Royal will be a classic corner neighborhood joint located in the heart of DC’s historic LeDroit Park neighborhood at 501 Florida Avenue, NW. A coffee shop and lunch spot by day, and an intimate bar and casual eatery by night, The Royal will be a unique all-day destination for morning coffee, leisurely lunch, after-work cocktails and simple yet creative fare.

The intimate and versatile split-level corner spot aims to be a central “hub” for the neighborhood, connecting residents and visitors within a welcoming, accessible gathering space. In the morning, The Royal will boast a full espresso program, brewing up Counter Culture coffee for those on-the-go or looking to spend a leisurely morning, along with breakfast offerings and fresh juices.

Come afternoon, The Royal will offer one all-day menu, described by owner Paul Carlson and Chef Lonnie Zoeller as “our families’ comfort food presented as elevated bar snacks to complement the uniquely crafted cocktail program.” Inspired by both Carlson and Zoeller’s familial ties to Colombia, fresh meats, seafood and vegetables will be prepared on the wood-fire grill and accompanied by an assortment of house sauces.

The Royal’s beverage program will focus on craft cocktails, helmed by beverage director Horus Alvarez. The underlying theme behind the cocktails is simplicity – fresh ingredients, fruits, herbs – used in an array of both classic and signature cocktails. The bar will boast an extensive vermouth selection, featuring a housemade vermouth on draft. Carlson sourced a vintage ice shaver from Guatemala, which will churn the base for creative shaved ice cocktails, available year-round.

The Royal will also offer a small yet well-curated wine list of approximately 8-10 wines by glass, plus some unique reserve bottles and draft and bottled beers. The goal is to offer drinks that are simple, approachable, and affordable. (more…)

“The principals behind the award-winning Beau Thai restaurants of the Shaw and Mount Pleasant neighborhoods of Washington, DC, announced their plans to open a unique new Thai restaurant at 1700 New Jersey Avenue, NW. The new concept will be known as BKK Cookshop (BKK is the airport code for Bangkok) and will showcase international influences on Thai cooking.

Executive chef and owner Aschara Vigsittaboot has spent the past two years planning BKK’s menu. She has traveled to Thailand on several occasions to determine and refine the offerings. Among the dishes planned for the menu include house-made Chinese steamed buns, pomelo salad, grilled meatballs, Thai style chicken wings and several rice and noodle dishes. A handful of made-from-scratch sauces will be a stand-out accompaniment to meals at BKK. (more…)

I’m super intrigued by this spot. The liquor license placard for Masseria says:

“Full-service restaurant serving Italian cuisine. Total Occupancy Load of 99, Summer Garden with 32 seats.”

Previously the Washington Post reported:

“Nicholas Stefanelli recently left Bibiana to open a place of his own at 1344 Fourth St. NE, in conjunction with Edens Realty Inc., the developers of the popular Union Market. The first free-standing restaurant outside the market will be called Masseria, a reference to the charming country houses, many on working farms, throughout Puglia.”

Updates when they get closer to opening, but lots of build out needs to finish first:
