Pei Wei Asian Diner opened in the former Mattress Discounters space next to Nando Peri Peri and underneath 18th Street Lounge back in Sept. 2013. I never actually had the chance to take a taste – where there any fans?  Super fans can still get some in Fairfax or Herndon.   Updates when we learn who takes over the space.

Back in January we learned that Burger Tap & Shake would be coming to the former Neisha Thai Restaurant space (briefly EUR Asian) in Tenleytown. BTS now says:

“We are hoping to open by the end of the week!”

Check out their Tenleytown menu here.

This will be their second location, the first Burger Tap & Shake is located at 2200 Pennsylvania Ave, NW in Foggy Bottom.

A peek inside the new spot:

The Petworth restaurant explosion of 2015 continues with word of a new Latin American Wine and Spirits Bar coming to Georgia Avenue. Word on the street is that it will have:

“About 20 Latin American wines by the glass, plus a cocktail list featuring Latin American spirits. Full menu featuring foods from across Latin America, and a good sized patio space in the rear.”

Stay tuned for updates when more is known and they get closer to opening.

“Dear PoPville,

What’s the deal with U Sushi? There are signs saying that they are now in Sala Thai. What’s going into the space?”

The Sala Thai folks say they closed the independent U Sushi space because their 10 year lease was up and prices were rising. Not clear if a new tenant has been found yet but will update as soon as its known.

I’m told if all goes well expect a soft opening mid-week and grand opening on Friday!

From a press release:

“A new fanfocused, family friendly sports bar and restaurant, Walters is opening soon on the Georgia Avenue corridor in Parkview.

Named after legendary Washington Senators Hall of Famer and local icon Walter Johnson, the bar and restaurant will have a sports themed look and feel, with a décor highlighting the prohibition era of baseball. Along with Walter Johnson memorabilia, the atmosphere will pay tribute to the Washington Senators including team photos and a classic image of Babe Ruth at Griffin Stadium. Walters will also pay homage to local area sports including Sammy Baugh and the early days of the Washington Redskins. (more…)
