“Old playbill cafe is still being renovated. One of the shutters was open as I was walking home. Looks like they are still working on turning it into the Chinese restaurant and wine bar.”

From a press release:
“What: ANXO, DC’s first cidery and pintxos bar opening in Truxton Circle in early 2016, will follow up its extremely successful ANXO Sighting at Colony Club with a monthly cider club series, continuing through the end of 2015. These will be the fifth, sixth and seventh events in the ANXO Sighting series, and a bar environment gives DC diners and imbibers a preview of what to expect from ANXO’s regular nightly service once it’s open.
The first edition will kick off with an apple pressing demonstration by Beverage Director Tim Prendergast on the Colony Club patio. Guests will learn how to crush, press and ferment apples at home using hobby equipment. Each Cider Club will have a free cider class component beginning just before the main bar event. Those who attend all three classes will come away with free ANXO merch. (more…)

In November 2013 anti-artisan, bacon and egg lovers nearly had a heart attack, understandably, when word came out that Steak ‘n Egg would likely be closed for up to two years for renovations. Tenleytown DC updates with good news:
“Steak-N-Egg’s many loyal patrons will be pleased to know that the scaled back renovation means the diner will not close for any extended period. As the two-story properties at 4702 and 4704 Wisconsin Avenue are not currently connected to Steak-N-Egg, the restaurant can remain open during their renovation, maintaining its normal 24/7 operations.”
New plans still include an expansion:

“Dear PoPville,
Anyone know what’s going on to the building right by Duffy’s? Looks like it is finally under construction.”
I’ve been getting a few emails mentioning that work had finally started at 2100 Vermont Ave, NW. Back in August of 2014 we finally learned who’d be moving into long vacant building next to Duffy’s – Wet Dog Tavern. The liquor license placard revealed it’ll be:
“Tavern serving American Food. Occasional live entertainment to include Deejays, live music
and dancing.
Sidewalk Café Seats is 30, Summer Garden with Backyard Seats of 70.
Summer Garden RoofDeck total is 30
Entertainment Endorsement, Cover Charge, Dancing. Total Occupancy Load 200.”
Stay tuned.
