A reader reports:

Buffalo Wild Wings‘ Navy Yard is opening November 16, but the construction is now gone and they are just training staff. Beyond Leo’s pizza and wings, it’s the only food option between the half street navy yard metro exit and our home, so we’re super excited. Big Stick is practically across the street, but it’ll be nice not to backtrack to get home. Doesn’t look like they will have space for outdoor seating though, which is a bummer.”

This is massive news – and could be the start of what puts Kennedy on the Upshur Street track of serious redevelopment that folks have been pining for. The Kennedy Street Association broke the big news on Wednesday:

“711 Kennedy (the old John C. Flood building, next to Culture Coffee) has signed a lease with a great tenant, and will be getting a major structural overhaul and bringing daytime employment to the street!

The owners of ANXO will be doing their cider production on-site on Kennedy, with the hope of opening a second restaurant there in the future.”

Washington CityPaper followed up with more details:

“The locale will have a new name and concept, although it may also be a Basque-influenced. An ANXO catering operation will also work out of the space.

The 300 Florida Ave. NW location is slated to open in February, while the Brightwood Park location aims to be up and running by next September. Fitz says that would mean that they’d be able to enter the market “in earnest” in early 2017.”

The die is cast – by 2020 we will not recognize the Kennedy Street of today. I’ve been hearing rumblings from lots of known players around town that they are all interested in Kennedy Street – this news might be just the kick in the ass they need. Stay tuned for lots more.

I’m told The Little Beet is opening Monday in the former Pei Wei space next to 18th Street Lounge.

“All of our ingredients are carefully sourced from farmers and purveyors we trust, so you can too. We firmly believe what grows together, goes together. All of The Little Beet’s menu items are 100% gluten-free. But more importantly, they are also 100% guiltin’ free. Good food never tasted so good!”

You can see their menu here.

From an email:

“Brookland’s Finest will partner with Atlas Brew Works on a series of four beer dinners every Wednesday throughout the month of November, starting tomorrow, November 4th, and continuing during regular dinner service on November 11th, 18th and 25th. Chef/co-owner Shannan Troncoso will prepare a $35 prix fixe, three course menu with Atlas Brew Works pairings, including new seasonal releases, which will change each week.”

From an email:

“One hundred people walked away with a years worth of free Chick-fil-A this morning after camping out (some more than 24 hours) in front of the new restaurant in Columbia Heights. The 100th person signed up around 7:30 p.m. with 10 alternates signing up right after them.

Participants were welcomed with a loud celebration of pots banging and “Chick-fil-A”
chants. The doors to the restaurant opened up shortly thereafter.

We are also continuing to collect new children’s books at the restaurant until 9 p.m. tonight. The books will be placed in a Book House and donated to Harriet Tubman Elementary School.

With 70 seats inside [3100 14th St, NW], customers will be able to stay connected through the restaurant’s free Wi-Fi. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., serving a full breakfast menu until 10:30 a.m. Like all Chick-fil-A restaurants, it will be closed on Sunday.”

Reasonable or not?

For those who find it reasonable or just want a crepe for lunch at the regular price – you can see Crepeaway’s menu here.

UPDATE from Crepeaway:

“Hello everyone- my name is saad. I am the owner of crepeaway restaurant.

I want to make it clear that crepeaway does NOT charge double during late night hours.

What the poorly written sign is trying to say is that we close at 4am on Friday and Saturday. Sometimes people walk in at 415am. They want service. We tell these customers that if they want us to stay later, then we have to charge THEM double. Let me also point out that the funds that come from these patrons go straight into the tip jar…

I’m sorry this was misunderstood.

Kind regards sj 2024134822”
