Man oh man, remember Brightwood Bistro? Finally a new tenant!! From an email:

“We just leased 2,932 sqf of space at 5832 Georgia Ave to Imm Thai

They will call it Imm on Georgia (just as they do for IMM on H) and expect to be open in early 2017

They have two locations currently, H Street and Annandale.

The is a commercial condo and was vacant for years. Former tenants included Brightwood Bistro and Ibex. [Ed. Note: Don’t forget Meridian!] The bistro had a loan from the city of 500K. Last occupied the spaces back in 2011. The Bistro tried in vain but was not able to make it.

Capital Retail represented the landlord. Imm Thai represented themselves.

We are excited to have this corner reactivated.”

The Shaw Bijou has opened its second floor bar for walk-ins. Thanks to an overwhelming response during its trial run inviting the public into part of its bar, chef Kwame Onwuachi and general manager Greg Vakiner decided to utilize the complete 40 seat space made up of bar seats, tables and a lounge area for the same purpose. This allows guests who may not be able to get reservations for the full tasting menu to still have an opportunity to experience Onwuachi’s unique dishes. Guests are welcome Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30 p.m. until midnight. They can enjoy custom made cocktails from bartender Ben Long, wine selections from sommelier David Blackburn and a variety of small plate options.

Over a year in the making – Kōbō – is the Japanese word for “atelier” meaning artist workshop — where original art is created by hand. And although the literal translation of kappo is to cut and cook, it also means the intimate act of cooking for and in front of a guest.

Following the significant increase in the popularity of omakase experiences offered throughout the U.S., Utagawa, and Chefs Handry and Piter agreed that now is the perfect time to begin exploring the future of Japanese cuisine with the hopes of being able to introduce diners – especially Japanophiles – to perhaps the next phase or level of omakase. “Two-and-a-half years after bare-midriff models in short skirts graced its red-carpet opening party, the DC location of “Not Your Daddy’s Steakhouse” STK is closing. Its last day will be December 17, a receptionist confirmed.”

Now can we bring back Californian Pizza Kitchen? No offense to Casa Nonna of course. Actually an All Purpose Pizzeria would kill here!! Stay tuned.

“Commissary’s third annual Latkepalooza, an all-you-can-eat latke and fried donut bar, will be held Monday, December 19th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tickets are $22 per person, and include bottomless access to a traditional, sweet potato and zucchini latkes as well as the donuts, and can be purchased online or at the door. There is also a $38 ticket option (online advance purchase only – not available at the door), which include two drinks from a selection of holiday specialty cocktails or House wine and draft beer. Last week we learned that Ocopa had closed for renovations. As predicted it was simply another “closed for renovations” claim. Frozen Tropics has learned:

“I reached out to one of the owners, and he confirmed that Ocopa has closed. He also passed along information about the new restaurant that will take over the space. It’s called Stable, and it’s a Swiss-American concept from chefs David Fritsche and Silvan Kramer.

The projected opening of Stable D.C. is March 2017.”

Last week I mentioned that Dolan Uyghur Restaurant would be replacing Sorriso outside the Cleveland Park metro. And they’ve opened to very positive reviews already from the Cleveland Park listserv:

“We were told that the hand-pulled and cut noodles were special to Xinjiang, so that’s what we had. The noodles had very nice texture, the family was very welcoming and excited.”

and

“It was amazing! The noodles were fantastic, to say the least.”

Their website gives some background on Uyghur Cuisine:

“Uyghurs are from northwest China but their culture and language are more familiar to the indigenous population of central Asia. These countries would include Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan. Due to their historic link to neighboring countries such as Uzbekistan, Russia, and Chinese provinces, Uyghur food is well known throughout central Asia and China.

The Uyghur cuisine commonly features the influences of the West and East, antiquity and the present, great skill, imagination, beauty and harmony of taste.
