From an email:
“Supra (1205 11th Street, NW), DC’s first Georgian restaurant, set to open later this fall has just launched a kickstarter campaign. The campaign, details of which can be found here, is focused on fundraising for the restaurant’s artwork, which will feature pieces from Georgian, Russian and DC-based artists. Custom commissions include pieces from White Studio in Tbilisi (and artisans in the countryside), the Petrovka Art Studio in Moscow), and Schwa Design in Washington, DC. The owners, Jonathan and Laura Nelms, have also commissioned a Georgian street artist, Gagosh, who will paint a mural on the brick wall of the bar.

“Food at Supra DC” via kickstarter
The rewards are varied, including t-shirts, Georgian alphabet post cards, khachapuri and khinkali classes, papakhi (a traditional, puffy Georgian hat, featured in the campaign’s video) and an opportunity to visit, tour and eat throughout Georgia. Check out the video for more details and an intro to the team, including the owners and Chef Malkhaz Maisashvili, former Embassy of Georgia chef, who makes some khinkali (Georgian soup dumplings) with Chef and Operations Manager Lonnie Zoeller.”

SeoulSpice opened a location in NoMa (145 N Street, NE) last year. You can see their menu here.
“SEOULSPICE’s menu features made-to-order Korean favorites, such as rice bowls (bibimbap) and korritos (kimbap burritos), as well as street tacos and salads. These bases are enhanced with four protein options–beef, chicken, spicy pork, and tofu– and fresh vegetables, including bean sprouts, corn, carrots, cucumbers, Korean radish, kale slaw, and kimchi (pickled Korean cabbage). SEOULSPICE offers four gourmet sauces made in-house–Korean hot sauce, creamy sriracha, cilantro-lime ranch, and ginger-carrot–plus fresh herbs and toppings. The menu also features three sides: “the” egg, marinated in a sweet soy base; avocado; and jars of kimchi.” (more…)

From an email:
“Curated by Executive Chef and Founder Dimitri Moshovitis, the new menu is inspired by Moshovitis’ traditional Greek upbringing and his penchant for fresh, crisp vegetables.
New additions include Greek Minestrone with Harissa, a vegan, gluten-free, and dairy-free dish heavy on colorful fruits and veg and elevated with a kick of harissa; a Fall Vegetable medley with brussels sprouts, butternut squash, carrots and cauliflower, all lightly charred and spiced simply with salt and pepper; and sweet and crunchy Carrots & Currants tossed in lemon juice, that can be used as a topper on any grain bowl, salad, or pita.
Also new to the menu is a Yellow Pepper Tahini dressing with a smoky flavor profile from roasted yellow peppers, and a permanent addition – new greens mix SplendidGreens. A crunchy combination of greens including romaine, escarole, chicory endive, belgian endive, and radicchio, SplendidGreens is a perfect base for a salad or Greens+Grains bowl.
CAVA’s signature housemade juices and teas are also getting a boost with Rosemary Limeade, Apple Cinnamon Sage, Blackberry Orange Shrub, and more.”

Well this is massive. 10 year H Street resident Granville Moore’s is being taken over by owner of the Queen Vic, Ryan Gordon, starting October 1st. Ryan tells me:
“You won’t be seeing any major changes, we will bring it back to what made it an institution.”
Update: Chef Teddy Folkman will remain a partner.
Full Update:
“As of this week, Granville Moore’s, located at 1238 H Street NE, has new owners.
Teddy Folkman
Teddy is an existing owner and has been with the company for 10 years. He will continue to be the Executive Chef and will have creative control over the menu. He plans on moving to North Carolina at the end of this year but will be coming back monthly to update the menu.
Ryan Gordon
Ryan is the existing owner and executive chef at The Queen Vic. He will be overseeing operations at Granville Moore’s, as well as collaborating with Teddy on the menu. He will be making sure that the food, service and beverage program are consistent and are of an incredibly high quality.
Roneeka Bhagotra
Roneeka is also an owner at The Queen Vic. She will be taking care of all the boring training, finance, PR and HR stuff.
All three of us are so excited to working together – Granville Moore’s has been a staple on H Street for over a decade and the past few years have been a little bumpy – but with the new ownership in place we hope to bring it back to it’s former glory and make sure it is once again one of the number one spots in the city.
We do not plan on changing the menu or beverage program drastically, so you will still be able to enjoy the fantastic mussels and unusual Belgian beers. Our focus is to tighten up the existing structure and make Granville Moore’s the friendly, delicious and fabulous restaurant is deserves to be.”
An institution indeed. As a fan of the Queen Vic, I’m gonna file this under very good news!

Thanks to WayneMan Comedy for the update: “Someone told me Hooters in Chinatown is closing at the end of this month.”
A couple weeks ago we learned that this Hooters was listed for lease but we hadn’t heard when the closing date was. Couple more weeks to get your wings.

Holy crow, MARVIN is gonna be 10?!?!?. Seems like just yesterday we were freaking out over a $15 burger. Stay tuned for details on the 10 year party soon.
