8455 Fenton Street via El Sapo

Well this sounds pretty great:

“I’m so happy to introduce EL SAPO, Cuban Social Club – a hip, festive, forward-thinking Cuban restaurant, and the first of its kind in the D.C. metro area. It’s been a long dream of mine to represent and promote my culture through my craft, and here it is. Bright, open, and brimming with energy, EL SAPO’s whole storefront lifts to let the breeze in. The fresh mojitos, upbeat music and bold island food really do require “no filter”. Our menu is rooted in tradition and unmistakably Cuban; full of intense flavors, colors and aromas. About half of the dishes are what I ate growing up at home or on the streets of La Habana, while the other half tell the story of my journey as a cook. (more…)

Park Place apartments at New Hampshire and Georgia Ave, NW technically 850 Quincy St, NW

No, I’ve never actually heard of Burgerim but this damn retail space has been vacant for so long – I’m marking this as a win!! Also, burgers!!

Michael Neibauer reported on twitter:

“Pending BZA special exception approval, D.C.’s first Burgerim franchise is planned for 850 Quincy St. NW, at the corner of Rock Creek Church Road and Georgia Ave.”

So I think this is the big space with the curve at New Hampshire and Georgia pictured above. Anyway Burgerim’s website says:

“Burgerim is an international fast casual franchise with a shiny new concept. (more…)

2005 18th Street, NW

A reader reports:

“Meat-in-a-Box (between Jack Rose & The Blaguard) is now DC Pizza & Kabob (which seems to be substantially the same concept, but with a less interesting name). Not exactly sure when it happened but MIAB had been closed for a while.

Meat in a Box opened here back in 2013. Before them the previous tenant was Absolute Pizza Kabab. So we’ve come full circle (ish).
