Good news for Pho lovers in Glover Park. The folks at Sprig & Sprout have passed their final inspections and are now hiring and training staff. They are hoping to open the week after Thanksgiving. Initially they plan on opening the “fast and casual main floor” then two weeks later will open the upstairs bar and full service dining area. You can see their menu here.

In the meantime here is look at the first floor courtesy of Sprig & Sprout:

1337 Connecticut Ave, NW

Back in May Heritage India closed at 1337 Connecticut Ave, NW just south of Dupont Circle. A new tavern called The Gryphon will be taking over the space according to a recent liquor license application:

New Tavern serving light fare. Entertainment with dancing and DJ. Seating capacity of 175, Occupancy Load of 192, and Sidewalk Café with 24 seats.”

In early Oct. Heritage India opened a new location in the former Skewers space above Cafe Luna at 1633 P Street, NW.

1822 1st St, NW

Back in June we learned that an “Italian-influenced American restaurant” was coming to the great space at the corner of 1st and Seaton St, NW. They’ve now applied for a liquor license under the name Red Hen:

“New neighborhood restaurant with Italian roots. Seating capacity of 78, Occupancy Load of 99, and Sidewalk Café with 46 seats.”

That’ll be a sweet sidewalk cafe:

And just down the street the recently opened Aroi Thai has also applied for a liquor license at 1832 1st St, NW:

Also nearby don’t forget the new spanish tapas Costa Brava has also applied for a liquor license across the street at 1837 1st Street, NW.

Hard to believe it was over two years ago when Big Bear had their difficulties getting a liquor license in Bloomingdale.

2020 9th Street, NW

Back in May we learned that a new restaurant from the owner of Thai X-ing was coming to 2020 9th St, NW across the street from the 9:30 Club. At the time the name was listed under Thai-ger but a recent liquor license application lists the name as To Be Determined. It says:

“New Thai Restaurant specializing in Eastern and Western combined into something uniquely Thai with a total of 99 seats. Occupancy load of 99.”

Washingtonian shares a few more details:

“Vigsittaboot said he hopes to open the new place—which he says will share the same dishes and informal approach as Thai X-ing—by the beginning or end of January, and that he will temporarily close the Florida Avenue location in order to get the new spot up and running.”

I’m still hoping he keeps the name Thai-ger. Stay tuned.

1317 Connecticut Avenue, NW

A reader sends word that Dupont’s new Jewish Deli, DGS, soft opens at 1317 Connecticut Avenue, NW:

“When I walked by yesterday [Saturday], the widows were all still papered – today [Sunday] they’re open!”

Looks like their promise of opening in early Nov. is coming true. YES!!!
