The Mediterranean Spot (formerly 24/Seven located at 14th and U) opened in August in the former Love Cafe space at the corner of 15th and U St, NW. For those who’ve been – is it exactly the same as 24/Seven? Any must order items? I’m digging the new sign.

Farmers Fishers Bakers will open at 11:30AM on Friday, November 9th. Check out their menus here. To say the space turned out great is a tremendous understatement. This is one of the nicest looking new restaurants I’ve seen in a while. The details are phenomenal. Have a look:

Lots more photos after the jump. (more…)

Back in April we learned that Chix would be opening a second location downtown at 1121 14th Street, NW just south of Thomas Circle. The original location is located at 11th and U Street, NW.  I recently spoke with the owner who says the new location is progressing nicely and should open up in January.

A recent liquor license application for the space says it will have a seating capacity of 45 and total occupancy of 88.

You can see their menu here.

Thanks to all who sent emails about this great possibility for Georgia Ave.

From their Kickstarter page:

EatsPlace’s mission is to be an evolving creative enterprise that lives, breathes, and changes according to what’s in season, what chefs are dreaming up and what neighbors crave. We’ll be located on Georgia Avenue in the Parkview/Petworth area of Washington DC. We promote good eating, food education and slow food business development through:

(1) Pop-uppery: EatsPlace will be a dedicated dining space that allows guest chefs to have residencies and pop-up their restaurants. EatsPlace will have a new restaurant popping up every month or so, but don’t worry your favorites will return for encore performances, or we’ll help them open up their own place!

(2) Shared Community Commercial Kitchen: EatsPlace will rent out its fully licensed commercial kitchen to local caterers and food producers to allow them to make and sell their food at food carts, farmers markets, grocery stores and to you.

(3) Marketplace: EatsPlace will stock both food and food-related supplies. You will be able to buy foods prepared in-house, from pickles to pasta to complete prepared meals. Shop here for weekly provisions or daily bread and support local culinary entrepreneurs. Our community kitchen users will be able to sell their products at the EatsPlace marketplace as well. All kinds of foods, sauces, sausages and baked goods are prepared on site and sold under the same roof. It doesn’t get any more local than that.

(4) Education: EatsPlace will host events such as cooking classes, tasting courses, skill-share workshops and other community activities. We will also offer career-building courses like food law, food packaging 101, and trade show secrets revealed.

Raising money here will show our other investors that the community wants a place to celebrate food. We’ve got the largest piece of the pie, the property, but we still have to convert the space and build it up and out. Your much appreciated contribution will help us build out and purchase equipment for production, including prep tables, a food processor, a mixer, a fryer and ranges for culinary roamings, and shelving and walk-in cooling to store everybody’s delicious creations, as well as purchase initial supplies and ingredients.

Fund the project here.

1028 19th Street, NW

We first heard Boston based Boloco burritos was coming to DC back in Nov. 2011. Now they’re about ready to open. I’m told they should open at 1028 19th St, NW between L and K Streets late this week or early next week. You can see their menu here.

And a nice piece of scuttlebutt as well – I hear they’re finalizing a second space in Georgetown too. Looks like they did a great job on the buildout:

4th and H St, NW

At long last Wiseguy NY Pizza is having their grand opening on Wed. in Mt. Vernon Square. The grand opening has been postponed until Thurs. Nov. 15th. I can’t wait for a taste and a proper judging. Stay tuned.

From a press release:

Hot off his crowning as the 2012 National Lamb Jam Master, Urbana Chef John Critchley is gearing up to host Lamb Feast at Urbana Restaurant & Wine Bar [2121 P Street, NW] on Sunday, November 11 from 5 to 8 p.m. This celebratory feast will give guests a chance to taste the dish that won Chef Critchley first prize in the National Lamb Jam Master competition, as well as several of his other signature lamb dishes, while sipping on local wine and beer.

Chef Critchley earned his title at September’s Lamb Jam Finale, the culmination of a year of regional contests sponsored by the American Lamb Board that pitted chef against chef in Seattle, San Francisco, Boston and Washington, D.C. The regional winners showed their chops in a national cook-off, and Chef Critchley’s Lamb Leg Pupusa with Queso Blanco and Lamb Tongue Curtido won the hearts of six judges, including Ted Allen of Food Network’s Chopped, food editor Margo True of SunsetMagazine, food and wine writer Kathy Marks Hardesty of The New Times, executive editor Sandra Duerr of the Chicago Tribune, Eddie Lin of Deep End Dining and Laura McIntosh of the Bringing it Home TV show.

At Lamb Feast, Chef Critchley will serve his winning pupusas alongside his 2011 Lamb Jam best in show and best leg dish, slow roasted leg of lamb with creamy white polenta and gypsy peppers, and his 2012 lamb jam pro am winning slow roast leg of lamb nachos with welsh rarebit sauce. Lamb Feast will also feature a whole roasted lamb carving station, lamb bruschettas and pizzas, sheep’s milk cheeses, lamb meatballs and lamb tartare. Flying Dog beer, local wine from Revelry, Obelisco Estate Wines and L’Ecole, and a signature cocktail featuring Jefferson’s Bourbon will supplement the fare.

Tickets, which cost $40 and include all food and drinks, can be purchased here.
