Curious if anyone has reached out about the fliers and signs in Park View about Bruce Monroe Community Park, in advance of the upcoming Comprehensive Plan Amendment hearing next week. Since the Court of Appeals case for Bruce Monroe did not go the way of the city, in the Comp Plan, it seems DC is now proposing the park change to a high density commercial zoning space. (more…)

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-110, which modifies the requirements for visitors coming into Washington, DC and District residents returning to DC from any state or country that is not considered “low-risk.” The new requirements require visitors and residents to use testing, in conjunction with other strategies for stopping the spread of COVID-19, to understand their potential exposure. Washington, DC has a robust public testing infrastructure that residents, visitors, and workers can use to get tested. (more…)

“Number have just been updated. DC BOE will next update numbers around noon on Wednesday 11/4.

The District of Columbia Board of Elections (DCBOE) is reporting unofficial results comprised of mail-in ballots received (by Drop Box and USPS) and in-person voting from all 95 Vote Centers. Included in that number are 100,000 of the 202,000 mail-in ballots received. (more…)

“PSA regarding speed cameras”

“Dear PoPville,

I’m sure you’re aware of the predatory speed camera on Kenilworth Ave. that catches essentially everyone taking the Benning Rd. exit off of the Anacostia Freeway.

After my wife and I both got tickets here in quick succession, and I did an analysis and was able to get them both dismissed by arguing that the camera’s location relative to the speed limit sign is unsafe.

“The District Announces Resumption of Vacuum Leaf Program – Leaf Season Begins November 9; Paper Bags No Longer Required”

“The DC Department of Public Works (DPW) announced today that the agency will resume its vacuum leaf program when it begins its 2020 leaf collection campaign on Monday, November 9. When the leaf collection campaign was launched, District households serviced by DPW were asked to rake leaves into paper bags. Paper bags are no longer required for collection. Starting today, residents are asked to rake their leaves, for collection, to the curb or into the tree box at the front of the residence. To help ease the vacuum process, residents are also asked to keep vehicles away from the curb lanes on scheduled collection days. (more…)

Three More States Added (none removed) to DC Health’s List of High-Risk States Requiring 14 Day Self Quarantine.

From the Mayor’s Office:

“Today, DC Health released an updated list of high-risk states where the seven-day moving average of daily new COVID-19 cases is 10 or more per 100,000 persons. Mayor Bowser issued Mayor’s Order 2020-081 with requirements for all people traveling into Washington, DC from high-risk states.

Anyone coming into Washington, DC from a high-risk state (within the prior 14 days) who was traveling for non-essential activities will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days from their arrival in the District. Individuals traveling from high-risk states after essential travel or arriving in the District for essential travel are required to self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 for 14 days and, if they show signs or experience symptoms of COVID-19, they are to self-quarantine and seek medical advice or testing.

Travel to and from Maryland and Virginia is exempt from the Order. This list should be used until Monday, November 16.

States that were added to the updated list include: California, New Jersey, and Oregon.

No states were removed from the updated list.

UPDATE from DCPS: “DC Public Schools has a responsibility to provide every student with an equitable, rigorous, and joyful education — no matter if they are learning at home or learning in school.

While we planned to offer in-person learning at the start of Term 2 for select elementary school students, this timeline will need to be adjusted. This means all students in grades PK-12 will now begin Term 2 on Monday, November 9 with learning at home. (more…)

“The following is a statement from Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen, Chair of the Committee on the Judiciary and Public Safety, following yesterday’s partial release of MPD body-worn camera footage:

“I have been in contact with family members of Mr. Hylton multiple times since the incident. They are grieving and in deep pain processing his death. I shared with them my deepest condolences for their loss.

We have more questions and few answers after yesterday’s partial release of two Metropolitan Police Department officers’ body-worn camera video footage of the injury, and later death, of Karon Hylton. What we do know is that he should be alive today, and that how Mr. Hylton was treated, and why he was killed, cannot be disconnected from his race.
