“Bowser Administration Releases Plan for More Housing in Rock Creek West”

“Mayor Muriel Bowser and the DC Office of Planning (OP) released the Wisconsin Avenue Development Framework to advance the District’s housing goals in neighborhoods west of Rock Creek Park.

“The Wisconsin Avenue Development Framework brings a vision of equitable development and opportunities for all residents,” said Office of Planning Director Anita Cozart. “The recommendations will enable more DC residents access to the schools, jobs, transit, and other amenities this part of the city has to offer.”

The Wisconsin Avenue Development Framework lays the groundwork for up to 9,500 new homes, including up to 1,700 dedicated affordable in Friendship Heights and Tenleytown. Recommendations rooted in urban design promote well-designed blocks that serve residents of all ages and abilities with active public spaces anchored by retail, restaurants, and cultural and entertainment uses. From the Mayor’s Office:

“In anticipation of snow predicted to begin Friday evening, Mayor Muriel Bowser will deploy the District Snow Team at 10:00 p.m. on Friday, February 16. Pre-treatment brine operations will begin this evening, on Thursday, February 15, at 7:00 p.m. on all snow emergency routes, including the National Highway System.

Mayor Bowser and Monumental Battle over the future of the Caps, Wizards and Mystics on Sunday

First Mayor Bowser tweeted: “We intend to keep our end of the bargain and enforce the leases with Monumental that require the Wizards and Capitals to play at the arena through 2047 and the Mystics to play in Congress Heights through 2037.

If Monumental goes ahead and breaks its leases, the short-term impact will be tough, not only on the neighborhood, but on our entire city. But let me be clear: The city owns the land under the Capital One Arena and will own the building, should Monumental Sports break its lease.”

Monumental then tweeted: “We’ve been clear w/ @MayorBowser that we will honor agreements to play at the arenas. Caps & Wiz have the right to pay off the bond in 2027 & end the COA lease early – MSE plans to exercise that right. And the Mystics will play at ESA through 2037 (unless city agrees otherwise).” (more…)
