From Ward 4 Council Member Brand Todd’s office in response to “Frustration Mounts as More Shots Fired on Jefferson Street”:

“Neighbors,

I know many of you are concerned with the increase of gun shots in the Petworth community of late. Trust me, I am too. I have been in constant communication with 4th District Commander, Wil Manlapaz, and several PSA Lieutenants to inquire about the most recent incident. While MPD is still investigating, MPD has taken tangible steps to improve the immediate state of safety in the area. You will notice increased patrols in the area, by foot and car. (more…)

From WMATA:

“Metro Transit Police have arrested an 18-year-old Lanham man on charges of misdemeanor sexual abuse following an assault last night at L’Enfant Plaza Station.

The incident occurred on the Green Line platform shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday. The victim, an adult female, reported to police that she was walking on the platform when the suspect “passed her and then reached back and grabbed her buttocks,” according to a police report. The victim confronted the suspect with her boyfriend at which time the suspect fled on foot. The victim ran after the suspect while yelling for police assistance. Multiple MTPD officers at the station pursued the suspect on foot and ultimately apprehended him in the 500 block of C Street SW.

The arrestee is identified as Jose Francisco PLEITEZ, 18, of Lanham, Md. The victim was not physically injured and declined medical attention.

“Dear PoPville,

I live in a small (7 unit) condo building on 6th Street in Shaw. Our building recently had a string of break-ins. My road bike was stolen, along with a set of golf clubs, a neighbor’s bike, and a number of other items.

We’ve filed a police report and set up some alerts for the stolen items, but I wanted to pass along the security camera footage in case anyone recognizes/knows of this guy.

suspect

Having lived in DC for 11 years, I know this is a common problem. That said, it’s a brand new building with seemingly secure locks, so it’s a bit unnerving that he was able to get away with this in broad daylight (still trying to figure out how he got in, but will be changing locks/setting up more cameras).”

From MPD:

“The Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in identifying two persons of interest in reference to a Burglary II incident which occurred in the 1900 block of 12th Street, NW, on Monday, May 23, 2016, at approximately 4:40 AM. The subjects were captured by the establishment’s surveillance camera.

Anyone who can identify these individuals or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE to 50411.”
