“Dear PoPville,

I wanted to reach out to you about a particularly alarming package theft in our condo building in Adams Morgan. I have written to you before about package thefts, but this is a new low even for our building.

A couple weeks ago on a Wednesday night around 9:30 PM, someone gained access to our condo building in Adams Morgan and proceeded to steal a pretty expensive package. Through our security footage, we were able to check the video, screenshot the intruder, track the fob, and determine how she got access. Turns out, the fob that she used to gain access is the fob we assigned to the USPS mail person who services our building. We are uncertain whether the fob was actually stolen, or given to someone to access the building. This person knew exactly what she was looking for, (more…)

This was an excellent job by the officer!”

chinatown troubles

“Dear PoPville,

Thought you’d want to see this from last night’s Mount Vernon Triangle CID community meeting. People are at the end of the line with the Chinatown parks and the heroin and and crack market in open air 24/7, transvestite prostitution , and trash cesspool. Drugged crazed idiots accosting pregnant people, toddlers, people’s dogs etc . Police action from MPD and park police is being hindered by national park service “the benches can’t be moved because it would ruin the historic nature of Chinatown park” and the city council “most people arrested are released a few hours later except for the guy that threw blood on a cop”. One lady said she’s petrified of the day her dog eats a piece of crack and dies. 11 people arrested in less than 2 weeks . Three of them wanted felons, just hanging in Chinatown park. NPS and the council need to be held accountable. Police are doing everything they can.”

mbt

Yesterday a resident reported, on theBrookland listserv, encountering a man masturbating on the MBT around 11:30am. The following description of the 911 call could be even more disturbing:

“Where are you?”
“RHI metro bridge on the Metropolitan Branch Trail.”
“Oh are you in the metro?”
“No.”
“By Foreman Mills.”
“What’s the cross street?”
“Rhode Island Ave. I am on the MBT.”
“But where on the MBT.”
“Just south of the 2.1 mile marker.”
“Mam, that doesn’t help me.”
“I thought the whole point of the mile markers was to help us tell you where we are?”
“Where are you again?”
“On the Metropolitan Branch Trail, just by the RHI Bridge Steps across from Foreman Mills.”
“What is the cross street?”
I lost it then. This is redic.
“WHAT IF I WAS BEING RAPED? Could you find me then?”
“I will send someone out there now.”

I am so frustrated, and I feel unsafe.”

I emailed OP this morning who said she heard from the 911 office today and “They are re-training everyone about the MBT.” Given the number of incidents reported on the MBT let’s hope this training is done post haste. And is thorough.
