Not to make light but I’d love some more backstory here…

Why did they blur the driver’s face? Isn’t he a person of interest?
Also, that’s some good security footage.

    • pjl35

Maybe he’s already been identified? No idea though…seems bizarre.

    • Hill Denizen

He/she is an innocent bystander. I wouldn’t want my face floating around out there, especially as a witness.

      • Tsar of Truxton

I think they are talking about the driver of the car that pulled up and started the whole incident. The video only shows the face of three of the four dudes. The big guy with the white shirt is blurred out.

        • textdoc

Yeah, I don’t understand that either.

        • TrueDetective

The driver of the car that started the incident was most likely already identified by his license plate, which is why they don’t need help identifying him. This also says to me that he isn’t cooperating with police to identify his passengers, which is why they police are now seeking the public’s help. This is an assumption and the unknown backstory could probably disprove this theory but given the that this incident seemed premeditated, the victim likely knew at least one, if not all of the persons of interest. They showed up looking for the victim and knew who and was and were to find him. Perhaps the victim isn’t cooperating with police in identifying the suspects as well?

          • textdoc

“This also says to me that he isn’t cooperating with police to identify his passengers, which is why they police are now seeking the public’s help.” Ahhhh… that makes sense. (I was thinking something like, “If they know who he is, how haven’t they figured out who the other three are??”)

      • Hill Denizen

Ohhhhh, didn’t realize that guy’s face was blurred. Woops

  • ***

Woah… right around the corner from where I live. Yikes!

  • vannessie

As that the Shell station? Because that’s my mechanic. Holy sh*t.

    • ClePark

  • Crouton31

    Those employees deserve a raise!!!

  • anonymous

If people only do this to those bad ass kids- they’d start to think twice about attacking someone.

    • KPS

EXACTLY. Stand up to a bully and he changes his tune quick.

      • Except when he shoots you. Which is why in armed robbery (this was apparently something else) police always say hand over your money and don’t fight back.

        • Cleveland Park runner

+1. Literally nothing you own is worth your life. Give it over and replace it.

This is not the Shell station but the BP station. And that is my mechanic too!!

    • Hill Denizen

This guy is my hero. I kind of wish one of those nitwits had gotten hit upside the head with that tire iron. It’s not like they have any brain cells to begin with.

      • ***

I was half expecting the mechanic to take the tire iron to the car – smash the windows, dent the hood. Destroy the get-away vehicle leaving these clowns stranded.

        • Timmy

          Walter Sobchak-style?

    • BRONX2DC

Womp, that’s gonna be my new mechanic; I like his style.

  • andy

I’m not sure about this, but my first reaction was that I was glad the dude realized, wait a minute, I am a mechanic, these guys have nothing to threaten me with and I know where like 20 different tire irons, etc., are.

    • jaseguy30

      But guns tho

      • andy

dude i did not see the guns!!! yow!!!

    • anon

did you not see one of them take a gun out of his waistband? Glad he decided not to use it.

      • FridayGirl

  • wreckfish

I think the guy who chased them off is the guy who fixed my car a few months back. Nice guy and did a good job. He also helps with little things with my car, often for no charge, It’s heartbreaking to see him experience something like this, even if he was a bad ass. That’s still got to be scarring.

  • Colhi

How scared are you if you are the poor schmuck just filling up your Honda?

    • navyard

Terrified. I would have crapped my pants

  • MarkQ

What exact were they trying to do? Rob the place? A garage? For cash? Car parts? There’s gotta be some backstory here. The lady in the car is oblivious.

    • Timmy

Definitely seems like the driver knew the mechanic to me. Didn’t look like a robbery…otherwise the weapons would have been out.

      • psoccer55

It looks like intimidation to me. The mechanic clearly knew the guys and the guys clearly were looking for him. It looks like they just wanted to send a message. As TrueDective above said, I would bet the mechanic knows the guys, and I would wonder if he was involved with some nefarious stuff with these guys (thus why he may not cooperate). Or maybe they were there for another guy, but recognized him and wanted him to pass on a message. We may never know.

        • JoDa

It could be innocent on the part of the mechanic. He may have turned someone in/testified and they’re trying to send a message that was a poor choice. I agree that they were looking for him, but I’d wait for the facts to come out before assuming it’s because the mechanic is a bad guy, too.

  • ET

I have to think there is some history there it felt too purposeful and not in a rob you sort of way. It sort of feels like the driver with the white shirt brought the other three for back-up when he went to confront someone.

    • stacksp

That seems to be exactly what happened. They came to confront this guy over a previous dealing and will probably be back.

      • Anon

My guess would be the same – that one of the guys has some beef with the mechanic (or someone related to him) over money or respect or drugs or a woman or god knows what. They came by to put a scare in him. But it seems like he doesn’t scare that easy!
Would love to know the actual story though.

        • ParkViewneighbor

When you got 4 dudes coming down on a single one, that says a lot about the type of respect they have

  • anon

My take, which granted comes from watching TV and movies and seeing teenagers in groups, is that they came to specifically to scare this guy particularly. Or perhaps someone else who wasn’t working there at the time.

  • KPS

    1) The morons pulling up their pants as they run. 2) Good for that guy fighting back, protecting his business. 3) Glad that lady stayed in her car.

  • navyard

I read lips, and here are a few sentences that I caught:

Driver: I won’t be long, you boys stay in the car
Driver, waving arm: Yoo hoo, where’s the little boys’ room? Yoo hoo, can you bring the key out here ?
Kids in car: I have to go too. Can I come? Shorty, come with us too.

    Sorry, that’s all I got!

  • northeazy

You know those YouTube videos where they play Dr. Dre and Snoop Dog’s “The Next Episode” track and throw shades, a hat and a lit blunt emoticons on someone after they just did something gangsta? Yeah, the mechanic needs to be nominated for that!

  • tonyr

Looks like members of the Chevy Chase Massive. I think the one in the red hat is George Will.

  • wobber

Can we please have an update on this incident as the investigation develops?

    I have a new mechanic.
