A resident reported on the MPD 4D Listserv:

“…2nd night in a row a group of 8 to 10 teens mugged and robbed someone in the 6800 block of 4th street. Tonight they 1st harassed a biker, who managed to get away from them and then beat and robbed a neighbor who was walking home from the Rec. center. They took cell phones, a laptop, clothes, and wallet and ran toward the metro. It is very unsettling because neighbors were on their porches and motion sensor lights in my yard came on but this did not deter the muggers. Both nights it happened around 7:30. Police responded quickly.”

MPD responded:

“Lieutenant Ennis (PSA 401) has put together a plan of action to combat the crime in the Takoma Park Area. This plan is designed to prevent the rash of robberies in the area with the goal to arrest those individuals responsible. We have adjusted our deployment to ensure that officers are in this area, to prevent any criminal activity. Please if you see a large crowd gathering or if you suspect criminal activity please call 911. Remember if you see something say something.”

Officers assigned to the Second District responded to the bridge, observed the female in the water, and notified MPD Harbor Patrol.

Special Operations Division Harbor Patrol officers were patrolling in the waterway nearby and immediately responded, pulling the unresponsive female from the water and beginning to administer life-saving care.

“Dear PoPville,

Last night while watching the debate at a friends house we heard 5-10 shots fired very closeby (the windows were open). When I was leaving his apartment I drove past the police and Webster street was marked off (where indicated on the attached image) but I don’t see any postings about it on the Police website or anywhere else and wanted to see if you heard other folks mention this anywhere?”

“Today, Deputy Mayor for Public Safety and Justice Kevin Donahue released information related to the September 11, 2016 officer-involved shooting. The information released today includes the body-worn camera (BWC) footage and the name of the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officer who discharged his service weapon resulting in the death of Terrence Sterling, a 31-year old resident of Fort Washington, Maryland. The release of the information was authorized by Mayor Muriel Bowser, who deemed the BWC footage to be in the public interest and consistent with the goals of the District’s BWC program to create broader accountability between law enforcement and communities, and to maintain open and transparent government.

On Sunday, September 11, at approximately 4:20 a.m., MPD officers observed a motorcycle driving erratically in the vicinity of 15th and U Streets, NW. Just before 4:30 a.m., MPD’s ShotSpotter, a technology system that can detect the sound of gunfire in an area, identified the sound of possible gunfire near 3rd and M Streets, NW. The BWC footage released today begins shortly after the shots were fired and shows the officers providing medical assistance to Mr. Sterling. (more…)
