“possible shooting at 5th and Jefferson NW Street closed & cop looking for casings (looks like it at least).”

Other residents have been inquiring about the incident on the listserv, will update when/if MPD responds.

Also this morning readers write:

“There were at least 10 police cars on the corner and they had blocked off the Randolph Street coming off of 14th St NW. Any idea what’s going on over there? They had a fancy looking guy in a suit walking towards what I assumed was the site of the incident.”

From the files of people can be awful vol. 77 – porch thieves. I wish there were a way to track down this plant but that does not seem likely. Saw this sad report on the Petworth listserv yesterday:

“I had a planter stolen off my front porch Sunday morning at 4:11am @ 5th & Randolph. It was a plant that had been in the family for generations that traveled from Mississippi to Texas to Ohio and finally to DC.

I wanted to share the video in case anyone sees the person and warn everyone to safeguard items on the porch.”

MPD Chief Peter Newsham writes this morning:

“A long and tough night 4 the MPD family, one officer remains critical but stable & the other is in fair condition. Thanks 4 all your support”

A PoPville reader shares her account from the scene:

“We were sitting on the terrace at Grand Central so literally a sidewalk between us and the incident. There was an Uber driver stopped letting people out and a bus behind it, with the driver leaning heavily on its horn. That seemed to be it, then we heard a horrible noise. At first, we thought it was the bus having hit the crosswalk side, but then people starting running and we learned it was the bicycle officers that had been hit. I have never seen so many cops show up so quickly in my life. 18th St was blocked from Belmont to Calvert past the Adamo.”

A reader reports:

“Just wanted to report a crime that occurred tonight on the 1000 block of U St. NW. I was walking down the block when I heard a young (by young I mean both the victim and suspect appear to be in their early 20s) blonde girl crying on her cell phone that she was just tackled into an alley on the block, right by Corte Salon. She described her attacker as a young white male, about 5’6, “chubby,” with curly hair, wearing a short sleeve shirt and pants. She said he tackled her into the alley, at which point she started screaming. It sounded like an attempted sexual assault but I did not probe. He got up and fled down the alley. I found some police and she gave them a similar report. This all took place around 10:45pm Monday evening.”
